Michigan basketball recognized for outstanding APR score
Saw this pop up on Twitter and figured this site should highlight just how successful Beilein is on AND off the court.
It's been 8 straight years they've finished in the top 10 for their APR score, which is particularly impressive considering how many guys have left early. Credit to the coaches, staff, and the student-athletes for making sure they're doing well in the classroom even if they leave early.
The APR must increase if kids leave too early for the draft? Which is odd, because you'd think that type of bad decision would reflect poorly on UM as an academic institution...
Hear! Hear!
Beilein places a great deal of emphasis on academics in recruiting. That's tricky to do in basketball where most high level recruits plan on leaving well before they graduate. While we rightly credit Beilein and his staff for their superior player development, a lot of the credit has to go to the players. They seem highly motivated to take advantage of their opportunities at Michigan, both in the classroom and on the court.
Nice to see this from Nick Baumgardner and the Freep. That newspaper has come a long way since the days when their hacks made a mountain out of a molehill over a few extra minutes of stretching exercises.
Even better, it's not just Coach Beilein who is getting the desired academic results. Softball, Baseball, women's, golf, and both men's and women's tennis are among several other Michigan sports programs which also made the honors list.
GO BLUE!
But what about their credit score?
As much as we talk about results - stats, wins, losses, etc... - it's great to see stories about these particular results. Thanks for sharing.
I’m concerned.
