Michigan Baseball crushes Illinois 17-9
1-0 loss yesterday and not 24 hours later they score 17 runs.
Seems legit.
Relax. It's Bakich's second season.
Why is it crucial, may I ask? And Michigan softball crushed MSU 8-0 today!
Also women's tennis beat Minnesota 7-0 and women's lacrosse beat Cal 13-12 in double overtime. Cal has had a team since 1999, so that's certainly a big win for a first year team!
Women's Lacrosse's second-ever win.
Both wins this season have come in 2OT, by scores of 13-12, against california schools from the MPSF.
Also, the game-winning goals for both games were scored with 1:0X left.
Michigan had a hat trick of hat tricks today--Korten and Angerman (GWG) had 4 and Schueler had 3.
We need to be in the top 6 to get into the Big ten tournament and we lost 3 straight games before today. We still play Purdue and Northwestern who are the two worst teams so we have a opportunity to make up ground later on but getting the win today was a plus.
We need to be in the top 8 to make it to the Big Ten tourney. It used to be 6, but they changed it this year in anticipation of Maryland and Rutgers joining the conference I believe. So, not exactly a "crucial" game but the middle of the conference is still tightly contested so every game counts.

3-2 Union
4-2 Union. Union is killing Minnesota on rebounds.
woops lol wrong thread
They were pretty consistent 7-8 years ago. They beat David Price and the # 1 overall seed Vanderbilt Commodores to get to the Super Regionals. They then hosted the NCAA Regionals the next year.

The 17 runs were more than they scored in their last five games combined. We'll see if this is the start of a more positive hitting trend, or if it was a one-game aberration, aided by a very strong breeze blowing straight out.
Jacob Cronenworth hit his first two home runs of the season, and some of the freshmen had some notable performances: Carmen Benedetti went 3-for-4, with 3 doubles and 4 RBIs, and Johnny Slater went 4-for-6, knocked in 2, and scored twice.
Also of note was that Jackson Lamb made his first appearance on the mound as a Wolverine, setting down the side in order in the ninth.
The full recap is here.

Good that Benedetti had a good game. He is from my high school so I always hope he does well.

Why is the baseball program so bad ?
There a lot of competitive kids leagues in the South. At 6, the travel teams start up and go to a "World Series" between teams from several states. Kind of silly since it's coach pitch, but they are very serious about winning.
SEC Baseball is big, too, which makes it a big draw for the best players. Same for other southern conferences.

Up 2-1 on the Illini in the 5th on two sac flies. Would be a big series win.
