Michgan Hockey vs UNO will be on TV (sort of)

Submitted by Wolverine In Exile on

Per mgoblue.com:

The game will be televised on Comcast Detroit, Altitude and Time Warner Upstate (N.Y.). Additionally, ESPN3.com will provide a free live HD web stream and the game will be shown on tape-day at 11:30 p.m. EDT on ESPNU.

Comcast Detroit is obviously on comcast networks. Altitude is the rocky mountain sports network... it's available on Direct TV and Dish Network in expanded sports packages. So if you want to watch and you have a dish (or a bar with a dish), pay the one month upgrade to get the Altitude channel.

Altitude is in the Sports Pack on Direct TV ($12.99/mo) and is channel 681. On Dish Network it is Channel 410 and is included in some higher end programming packages.

Damn! I just cancelled my sports package on Dish. I never watched all the fox channels that were on it and now there is something I would actually be interested in. Why is this not on btn? I guess that don't want to interrupt their continous loop of the greatest teams of the 90's.

The NCAA hockey tournament has ESPN as themain partner, so any "national" broadcasts have to be done through ESPN affiliates (ESPNU, ESPN2, ESPN3.com). HOWEVA, the NCAA does allow for "local" broadcasters to pick up NCAA hockey tourney games simulcast from the ESPN feed to service NCAA institutions playing. This is how Comcast Detroit (michgan's "local") and Altitude (UNO's "local") got rights. Additionally, the NCAA has recognized an appeal from NY based cable companies to be considered a "local" feed also for Michgan games using as an explaination the large number of Michigan alums in the NY area, hence Time Warner Upstate NY's broadcast. In the past, YES network and MSG Network have broadcast a good number of Michigan tournament hockey games using that NY alumni argument. The BTN is considered a "national" network and competitor to ESPN, so they wouldn't get rights (if they even tried).

If you want to watch the HD version, like I do, and you have an Xbox 360 - you should be able to download the ESPN3 software onto your Xbox and watch it on your regular TV.

There is a website PlayOn that you can download their program and then your computer sends a signal wirelessly to your PS3 that can stream ESPN3. You have to sign up for the premium version, but there is a 14 day free trial. I am going to try to set it up tonight on mine, and then just cancel before the 14 days are up.

I'm a WMU grad and lifelong Michigan fan so having both schools in the tournament is awesome for me. WMU's game on Saturday is on CW7 TV. Does anyone know if CW7 is broadcast in HD and on what channel it would be on for Comcast? Thanks for the help, I hate posing a question about a competitor but this is the most knowledgeable board I've found!

Dang, hopefully hockey coverage will improve soon.  I feel like you literally have to go to the  games if you want to keep up with the team sometimes
