Men's Lacrosse Upsets #14 PSU, Women's Lacrosse to Play #16 PSU on BTN at 2 PM

Submitted by twotrueblue on

The men's lacrosse season concluded today at Penn State. Michigan came back from a 7-5 deficit to get the win. They finished with an 8-6 record and got their second ever Big Ten conference win. The other one being a victory over Rutgers in the Big House back in 2015.

This also gives Michigan two wins over top 20 teams on the year. Even though the Notre Dame win is no longer a top 10 win, it may be once again if #18 Notre Dame can win the ACC Title tomorrow against #13 Virginia. Notre Dame defeated #2 Duke last night in the ACC Semis.

The women's will play #16 Penn State at 2:00 PM. That game will also be on BTN. That will also be their finale. An upset victory for the ladies would put their record at 7-10 on the year.

Other men's games on TV today:

#1 Yale is hosting Harvard on ESPNU right now

The Rivalry of Lacrosse: #7 Johns Hopkins hosts #3 Maryland on ESPNU at 2:00 PM

#9 Rutgers visits #19 Ohio State on BTN at 4:00 PM (Rutgers needs to win to get in the B1G Tourney, OSU is already in)

Would this knock PSU out of the BTT? I saw that PSU, Rutgers, and OSU are basically battling for the final at large spot (in the NCAA). Rutgers and OSU play after this on BTN... I think OSU controls its own destiny to make the BTT

Still would've been tough.

Maryland would still be a lock at 3-1

JHU, OSU, and Rutgers would be at 2-2

PSU and UM would be at 2-3

If JHU would lose to Maryland and OSU would lose to Rutgers, that would put the standings this way:

Maryland 4-1

Rutgers 3-2

JHU, PSU, OSU, and UM at 2-3

Within those four:

JHU 1-2

PSU 2-1

OSU 1-2

UM 2-1

UM would then have the 3 seed in the B1G Tournament. Basically if Michigan beat Johns Hopkins last week, they would need them to lose to Maryland this week to make the tournament.

Amazing finish to a game that seemed to be slipping away.

Great momentum into the offseason, as well. Maybe the biggest goal in program history scored by Decker Curran.

First-ever win over PSU, second-ever B1G win and first-ever B1G road win. Third-ever win over a ranked team.

Great to see the progress this team has made this year.  There was so much excitement when we started the varsity program, but then it kinda fell flat for the first few years.  Now we're getting things up & running.  Should be some fun times ahead!

Great to see the beginning of relevance for us in a great sport to play and watch. In news only relevant to me, my boy got his first extended minutes in D3 college LAX as a freshman last night. In less than 5 minutes of field time, 1 forced TO, 2 ground balls and a shot on goal. Way to make a few minutes count!

Tommy Heidt is a phenomenal goalie. I think he had 15 saves today. What a way to finish your career. They will have a tough job to fill that position with that kind of talent.

But Decaprio and Curran, both juniors, were awesome today. Dicaprio put on a show. Curran with the game winner.

Looking forward to watching this team get better.

I don’t know much about Lacross but one thing pops up the first time you look in. The men wear very similar equipment to a hockey player while the women don’t. Why?

What an amaizing finish and WIN by the Michigan Women!!! After tying up the match at 11 each with 6.2 seconds left, pulled off the nearly impossible feat of scoring the winner in the very last tenth of a second. You had to see it to believe it!!!

JH had a 7-5 lead with about 5:00 left. MD scored the last 2. And it’s 7-7 with 1:03 left. Low scoring but both teams have had good scoring opportunities. Hopkins goalie is in the zone. Stoned the Maryland Attackman on back to back shots- a low to high, stick side from about 10 yds and the rebound point blank.
