Men's basketball assistants signed through 2023-24 season
Phil Martelli, Howard Eisley and Saddi Washington have been by Juwan Howard’s side throughout his tenure as Michigan men’s basketball coach. And that’s not going to change for the foreseeable future.
The three assistant coaches have all signed deals that will keep Howard’s staff intact for the next two seasons.

Huzzah!
Why is Washington getting paid the least?
Least amount of experience probably.
Doesn't he have more college experience than both Eisley and Howard?
Key word: college. Eisley had been an NBA assistant since 2010. Not to mention his playing experience. Higher level, and also exactly why Howard is already a coach. Takes more money to keep a guy like Eisley around.
Saddi should've taken the Western job
Why? Coaching at a dead end job doesn’t beat the upward mobility of coaching at Michigan. The $80k difference in pay will be offset if/when he gets a head coaching job at a better program than Western.
I know Eisley is a Detroit native, but I’m still surprised he didn’t end up at BC last year. Both he and Saddi should be HCs soon, if they want to be.
Apparently the assistant coaches each said:
I’ll be back
(in an Austrian accent. And nice selfie, by the way)
You can't say "Austrian accent" without reliving this scene.
Try it in an Australian accent. A Drama becomes a Comedy.
Signed through the next two years is telling.
Jace graduates in two years and Jett is probably at most a 2 and done player.
Somehow we will be hiring another new coach and izzo will still be rotting in the landfill.
What’s it like being so negative?
It’s hard darn work!
Prett standard contract length for assistant coaches
Why can’t everyone just sign lifetime contracts!?!?
jizzo seems to have done that.
The pet name there is cringe. Do better.
Don’t worry about unimportant things you can’t control.
Meh. I don't think it's all that meticulously planned out at all, but if he leaves he leaves. I'm so used to this program kicking me in the balls at this point.
The real Franz Wagner would kick your ass if he read your posts.
I'm guessing the real Tom Izzo would kick his ass if he read these posts.
Hockey?
No, basketball
I believe Saddi's agent went to Michigan State ....that's why.
Sounds good.
These are all very pleasant surprises. I was really impressed with Howard's hires when he first arrived, but I also figured that Martelli would be here for a year or two before retiring or getting another head job, Eisley would want to go back to the NBA after a couple years of recruiting, and Washington would get a head job sooner rather than later. The fact that they're all sticking around says a great deal about the kind of man and leader Juwan Howard is.
