MBB Shoes - More Retros this year?

Submitted by cbutter on November 13th, 2019 at 12:24 PM

While watching the first couple of games, I couldn't help but notice that it looked like more of our players are wearing retro's this year. Unfortunately a lot of guys on the roster didn't get a lot of playing time last year, so it is hard for me to recall more, but I detailed a few shoes from guys comparing to last year.

If I am correct and Livers was wearing the 4 last night, that seems like a shocking choice. However, he played great so who am I to question his shoe choices?

Thought it could be an interesting topic for other guys into sneakers on the board. Maybe Howard is more on board with the retros and is going to allow a little more of it this year (yes I know that guys wore retros in the past)

Isaiah Livers

App State - Jordan 10

Creighton - Jordan 4 (I think, they were all white so hard to tell)

Last year - Almost always the CP3 XI

Zavier Simpson

Both games I believe he was wearing all white Jordan 11

Last year: Almost exclusively the Wesbrook signature model Why Not 0.1, occasionally wearing the CP3 XI

Eli Brooks -

App State - Jordan 34 (current signature model)

Creighton - Jordan 11

Last year: CP3 XI, Jordan 32, Jordan Super.Fly

Jon Teske

Jordan 34 (current signature model)

Last year: Bounced around from CP3 XI to the Jumpman Hustle.

Yes, he was wearing the Jordan Why Not Zer0.2 SE last night. I think that shoe just has straight up bad traction because NightWing, performance basketball shoe reviewer on YouTube, said the traction was terrible and I also noticed multiple players slipping in those shoes last season when the team got them for tourney time. I remember it was so bad that Simpson switched shoes mid game and never wore them again

Am I the only one that doesn't notice this kind of thing?  They could've been wearing beach sandals and I probably wouldn't have noticed until, at least, the 2nd half.

I was busy watching basketball.

do I care?  not really, but I also know a TON of people, like my brother, who are sneaker heads.

takes a real fucking douche-canoe to shit on everything they don't personally like.

why don't you tell us your likes so we can shit on them?  clearly, U of M sports isn't one of them so this should be fun.

I suppose you have a point. I usually think of women being into fashion/shoes/whatever, as opposed to men. My wife has 75 pairs of shoes (most of which she never wears).  I have 4, each of which has a specific purpose.  I like to look good, but I don't have a single fuck to give about branding or anything like that.

As long as they don't wear the season-killing pink shoes that lead to 3 losses against MSU in two weeks I am cool with it.

They did not wear pink shoes in the 2017 Big Ten Tournament.  Everybody looked to be wearing their normal shoes.  They did not wear pink shoes in the 2018 Big Ten Tournament.  They did not wear pink shoes during their run to the title game in 2018.  MAAR wore pink shoes, nobody else did.  The came out in pink shoes, as a team, last year against Michigan State at home and wore them regularly for the rest of the season.

It was a joke to begin with, I don't care about their shoes, but you guys are 1) assholes, and 2) completely wrong.

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure that the 4s that Livers had on last night would have had the original technology and that's where I would put my money if I had to.

Nike has released a few retros in the past with newer tech in them, like the "protro" Kobe 1, and I think at one point there was a Jordan 1 released that had a full length zoom cushion set up that is not on the original. Most retro's however are the original set up, or sometimes actually a downgrade in tech to cut cost.

Yea, I'm not much of a sneaker head but I absolutely love the look of the retro shoes compared to many of the "wtf is that" designs we see today.

Love to see them in Jordan 1s

I wonder if Juwan realizes the recruiting value that the players wearing Jordan retros on court has  and he's being more lenient with it or even encouraging it more than Beilein did?
