Former Cowboys and Bears RB Marion Barber was found dead in Frisco, Tex. on Wednesday.
He was found deceased in his apartment by Frisco police. The cause of Barber's death is currently unknown. The former No. 109 overall pick of the 2005 draft by the Cowboys out of Minnesota, Barber spent his first six seasons with Dallas and made the Pro Bowl in 2007. He spent his final season with the Bears in 2011 and then retired. Barber was set to turn 39 years old in nine days. He'd battled some mental-health issues post-retirement. Our thoughts are with Barber's family and loved ones.

That 2003 Michigan @ Minnesota game was on ESPN, not ESPNClassic.  It was the 2007 Minnesota @ Michigan game that aired on ESPNClassic.

ESPNClassic has had a few other live games over the years --- an Eastern Illinois @ Penn State game in 2009, for instance, aired there too.

But it is rare, and usually just a result of "that's the only channel we have available."

By far the highest percentage of these are former football players.

CTE is an epidemic among former football players.

When testing catches up to accurate diagnosis of CTE among living players; we will find that there is a very high incidence of CTE among current college, pro and in smaller percentages HS players.

CTE came to my mind right away.

I played high school football (not very well but I played) and had my lights turned out on two separate occasions. It was the early 70s so I didn't miss a beat and kept playing once the cobwebs cleared. I told my kids to send my brain to the CTE folks after I die.

This dude ran the ball as hard as anyone I've ever seen. Sad how someone with that kind of NFL success ends up with these types of mental health issues after retirement when you're supposed to be living a peaceful life with money in the bank and the NFL pension coming in.  RIP
