All of the current players were in high school at the time, but the only time the women played FGCU was five years ago in the WNIT semifinals. A road game, right after they beat Temple in an overtime game at Crisler that looked inescapably lost.

FGCU shot the lights out from 3, and the Wolverines did not. So it didn't go well. It's a decent program and KBA will have some familiarity. Their coach has been there a long time (former Maryland assistant). They lead the country in three-pointers and are on a 25-game winning streak. They are probably under-seeded.

It'll be quite a challenge, but they should be ready. Even though Michigan is only 3-4 since the COVID layoff, every one of those seven games was against a team in the tournament (except OSU, which would have been in, but is on a post-season ban). FGCU obviously can't say the same.

Based on the team's performance since the COVID pause, can't complain about the seeding.  I don't know anything about these teams other than Tennessee is a brand name that has lost some of its luster since the Pat Summitt days.  A six seed is better than 7 because the number 1 and number 2 seeds are almost locks to the sweet 16.  It will interesting to see if the bubble changes things as 1 and 2 seeds usually play the first week on their home courts in front of their home crowds.

FGCU is a tough draw.  they play fast, they defend, they shoot threes from the middle of the bay, they take care of the ball, and they hit the defensive glass.  kierstan bell was a top-ten recruit to ohio state but transferred before this season, and she's been a tremendous player.

bell missed the first two games of the year; since then, they've won 24 straight, and...well, ordinarily i'd say that's meaningful, but the atlantic sun is just terrible.  they've beaten a grand total of three teams that finished over .500.  central florida (literally the only quality win on the schedule), liberty three times, and north florida twice.  the rest are teams like kennesaw state and lipscomb and jacksonville and a school apparently named "bellarmine," playing their first D1 season.  it's one of the worst schedules you will ever find.
