M Tailgating @ Iowa?

Submitted by stankoniaks on
I'm coming down to the game on Saturday and saw that there was some good advice as far as what bars to hit up in Iowa City. However, I was looking to see if anyone here was tailgating and perhaps wanted to get a group tailgate together. I'm flying in with a buddy and obviously it'd be more fun to tailgate with others and not just us. I know the Alumni Association puts something on their own, but just seeing if other groups had stuff in mind. I think it'd be fun to have a bunch of us together (and it's no fun tailgating by urself).

Granted I will be with a group of Iowa fans I'll be tailgating in the finkbine lot. Starting at 8 am and will probably visit others as well. The Union is always a fun bar, as is the Fieldhouse. Good luck, maybe I'll see ya there. GO BLUE!!!

I (a Michigan fan whom lives in Iowa) too will be in Finkbine lot next to some Iowa friends. These guys are saving me a spot at 0430. I won't be there until around 0800/0900. I haven't heard of a mass gathering of Michigan fans but I've been searching the web. I believe the fellas at umtailgate.com will be there but I have not contacted them to find out where they will be. Maybe give them a shout. Other than that I plan on setting up shop and wandering a bit to find the faithful... If any friendly’s walk by I will offer thee nourishment for our battle with the enemy. Safe vehicle...black Pacifica with white horseshoe in the back window...your safe there.

That's 4:30 AM?! For a 7PM game? Crap, we were planning on driving from Chicago in the morning, and it sounds like getting there at 11-noon is going to be too late to get a good spot anywhere.

Yeah 4:30 am for a 7pm game. You'll probably be good up until 0900 or 1000 to get a decent spot but noon is pushing it for any spot. You have to realize that probably 1/3 of these people wont even go to the game. They go to party. That would be any home game Saturday. Now add Michigan, which they think is a HUGE rivalry, Saturday night national game, and it's homecoming. Hell, the day Iowa got put on the schedule we tried to reserve a hotel in Iowa City but they were all booked. We ended up in WIlliamsburg! One statement you'll here repeated over and over during the day is how early there group got started that morning. You still might be ok but, I would look at getting there a little earlier.
