?[LOCKED]? PSA - face coverings required at hockey games

Submitted by YouKnowNothing… on September 30th, 2021 at 11:20 AM

Not a big surprise given the current rules for football games, but the athletic department website was updated yesterday to include a requirement for face coverings at hockey games unless actively eating or drinking (airport rules). No ruling yet on requirements for basketball, whose season starts in November. If you are going to the opener on Saturday vs. Bowling Green, make sure to bring a face mask.

[Locked up primarily as a preventive measure, as the discussion was trending towards becoming yet another thread derailed by contentious bickering.

The PSA by the OP is worthwhile and will be left up on the board. -rob f]

[edit #2: most comments have been "surgically removed".  I also left a comment in the Mod Sticky thread.]

Almost certain to be the same for basketball.  Given the rules on campus, no way they could do otherwise for these indoor events.

I'm perplexed by the "unless you are eating or drinking" part. I've not been to a large sporting event and won't for the foreseeable future, but I've flown a few times this year and witnessed the "I'm eating and drinking for the entire flight so fuck you" numbskulls in action.

Seriously, you'll survive four hours without eating or drinking. You will. So I don't see why, to protect everyone, including kids who cannot yet get vaccinated, we don't just stop serving food and beverages at indoor events and on flights. Because, you know, 700,000 dead in the U.S. alone.

If that's what it takes to keep this thread civil vs yet another flame war, I'm leaning towards locking it and leaving it up as a PSA-only.

What are the official rules for football?   I think masks are only required in bathrooms. clothing stores, suites, etc.   Didn't see too many masks inside the stadium.

edit: oops, read the attachment..nevermind.
