?[LOCKED] Additional background on why the Purdue game was played despite Stefanovic's positive COVID-19 test

Submitted by FrankMurphy on January 22nd, 2021 at 11:20 PM

Stefanovic tested positive yesterday after having tested negative the previous day. Nonetheless, Stefanovic had been quarantining and had not had any contact with anyone else in the program since the team returned from their game at Ohio State. Purdue apparently informed Michigan (and Ohio State, which they had just played) of Stefanovic's positive test as soon as they learned of it on Thursday. Per Howard and the players, Purdue was fully transparent and gave Michigan the the option of postponing the game. Howard consulted with the players and with the doctors, and Michigan asked that the entire Purdue team take PCR tests. Purdue honored that request. When all of the results came back negative, Michigan decided to proceed with playing the game. Howard and the players praised Purdue for their transparency and cooperation.

[LOCKED the thread because a few too many MGoUsers took it in the wrong direction by making unnecessary personal attacks on others. I'll be issuing warnings later in the Mod Sticky thread, once I completely combing thru the thread after lunch.]

Because they’re buds and have worked together for years.  No harm in backing him up IMO. Setting aside Ace’s comments (with which I totally disagree), both Ace and Seth are incredible sports writers on this blog.

Absolutely incredible that you haven't been blocked by him yet. I got the hammer by replying "lol, are you serious?" when he called people racist for saying Cade was better than Milton during the Rutgers football game this year.

The dude is an extremist and I'm surprised Brian gives him a platform. Oh well. I'm hooked on this site because of UFR, but I'll continue to go elsewhere for basketball (UMHoops is a good value, people) until there's a change in coverage here. What happened to that guy Alex that they had for hoops a couple years ago? He was pretty good. Knew the game a lot better than Ace and had infinitely less baggage.

That's 95% of people online sadly.  The more time they spend on a computer the more out of touch they become with real life and how the real world works. Those people then lash out at the things that might force them out of their imaginary make believe online lives to deal with real life.

I'll just say that it applies to the majority of people who can't stay off their phone or get out of the house for 5 minutes. They end up in echo chambers with like-minded people and feed off each other in unhealthy ways. Breeds a lot of intolerance on both sides of the aisle when people don't choose to interact in real life with people who have the decency not to vomit their ideologies everywhere. When they do log off and step outside, the world they see frightens them and they don't know how to conduct themselves with decency.

Always love how he and Brian are so elitist about music.  Anything mainstream obviously sucks and anyone who was once "approved" and has started to get more popular has "sold out".  You can like whatever music you like, but looking down on someone because they like something you don't is pretty high school cliqueish bullying.

The content is free so not much to complain about.  I can look past his graphical, biased and one sided opinions on things completely unrelated to Michigan sports.  This is not an attack on Ace either, because he has a talent for writing and a passion for Michigan that I enjoy reading.  Just needs to ditch the "angry" about everything he disagrees with.  Would also be AWESOME if he could start being a little more professional in regards to his opinions and stop attacking the visitors of this site who he has a difference of opinion with.

The main thing that annoys me about Ace's take, and others, is that they think they know better than the two basketball programs and their doctors that were involved in this situation. Perhaps if Ace had waited until all of this information was out, he might have toned down his rhetoric. Instead he jumped to conclusions without knowing all the information. Sounds like Purdue was very transparent and Michigan and their doctors were satisfied.

Well said.  I watched the post game interviews with Painter and Howard.  UM knew Thursday.  All other Purdue players took PCR tests on Thursday.  All negative.  Everyone should just watch the interviews.

While the incubation period, time when you start being contagious, and time when you're symptomatic for Covid are all weird and confusing, this gives me some confidence. Hoping for the best

Best to always trust the experts and not the inter-webs, hearsay and speculation.

On to Happy Valley!  PSU beat Rutger this week and have Northwestern tomorrow.
