Livers vs Poole aka Pistons vs Warriors

Submitted by I Bleed Maize N Blue on October 31st, 2022 at 7:43 AM

Last night Livers chipped in 2 threes (2/4 from downtown) and 3 rbs in 16 min off the bench. Poole started and had 30 pts (just 2 less than Steph Curry) on 10/21 shooting, 5/13 from 3, 5/5 FTs, 3 rbs 4 assts, 2 stls in 36 min.

The Pistons got their 2nd win of the season, beating the defending champ Warriors 128-114. All the Pistons starters scored in double figures. Cade Cunningham was close to a triple double with 23 pts, 10 rbs & 9 assts, and 1 blk. Saddiq Bey led the Pistons with 28 pts and had 6 rbs, 3 assts. Isaiah Stewart had 24 pts & 13 rbs. Bojan Bogdanovich, who agreed to a 2 yr extension for $39.1M, scored 21 pts, with 3 rbs, 3 assts. Jaden Ivey had 15 pts, 4 rbs, 3 assts, 1 stl, 1 blk.

Ol' Triple Single upped his game and had a quadruple single with 7 ea of pts, rbs and assts plus 1 blk. (FYS, 29-7.)

The Pistons trailed by 8 after 1Q, 37-29, but had a big 2Q, 34-18, to take a 63-55 halftime lead. They were up 19 in the 3rd when Poole went on a 12-0 run - a layup and 1, then 3 threes - to cut the lead to 7. Stewart stopped that run when he got fouled and made both FTs. Ivey followed with a dunk, then Wiseman had one for the Warriors. Poole then hit a three to cut the lead to 6. Ivey responded with a 3.

The Warriors did cut the lead to 6 a couple more times in the quarter, but never got closer.

The Pistons' Jalen Duren suffered an ankle injury in the 4Q. Get well soon.

The Pistons are only 2-5. Beating the defending champs is great, but they face the undefeated Bucks on the road tonight and Wed. [CBSS recap]

Livers is going to carve out a long career for himself. His quick-release 3 has been impressive from the long line. Poole is Poole—crafty, streaky, and entertaining. Green is trash.

Pistons have a pass this year and probably next, but you want to see the young guys learn how to win along the way and not get used to losing. These types of games are huge.

It’s not a popular opinion, but I’m not 100% convinced that Cade is a top dog on a championship team at this point. Things don’t look “easy” for him the way they do for elite guys. Dunno how else to put it. Hope I’m wrong.

I am not 100% sure either but I think he is taking steps in that direction. It is important to remember he hasn't even played a full 82 games yet and it is going to take some growth on his part. I think in college he was used to shooting over and going around too often and that wasn't working for him in the NBA. He seems to be getting more physical and using his body much more effectively recently which is how he is going to have to get his in the league and keep getting to the line. He does really need that 3pt shot to start trending up toward his college rate if he is really going to be more than a poor man's Ben Simmons.

"A poor man's Ben Simmons"??? There's no way I'd want a Ben Simmons who won't shoot 3s,  and won't drive to the basket in crunch time because he doesn't want to shoot FTs. Cade's much better than a poor version of that.

Cade's learning. And I think it's good that the Pistons have more talent this season, so he doesn't have to try and do as much. I think he'll be a big contributor most nights, but not necessarily the high scorer.

"A poor man's ben simmons?"  He's already significantly better than Ben Simmons, at least on the offensive end.  Literally all Ben Simmons can do is stand in the corner and play hot potato with the ball.  2 or 3 times per game he will make an assisted layup.  Unless you are fearful that Cade regresses and forgets how to play basketball, i'm not even sure what this comment is supposed to mean.

On defense, Simmons is theoretically good, but actually has been bad so far this year.  Maybe he will turn it around.  But Cade is actually a pretty good defender himself.

I've had a lot of fun watching the Pistons this year.

They are going to be a force to in the next few years. Cade is already in the verge of superstar status. Ivey and Duran both had so much talent it's scary. Once Duren figures things out he is going to be an absolute menace in the paint.

Livers is going to spend a decade playing in The league. The guy does all the little things so well.

It's going to be a fun ride. I'm absolutely excited for the future
