A little historical perspective...

Submitted by NickUmich on
Michigan is still 11-10-1 against Ohio State since John Cooper rolled into Columbus. Despite all the pain of the last several years, they still haven't made up for the Cooper era. I made this point on a comment right after the game, but I post this for two reasons: (1) To put things in historical perspective...the pendulum will swing back our way...you can be sure of that. (2) I just wanted to take this opportunity to say, Thank you again John Cooper...we love you! Please consider this your opportunity to add your thanks to the best coach Michigan has ever had...Mr. John Cooper. Caption: "Are we really down 28-0? It must be Michigan week."-John Cooper

Tough to disagree with any of your reply there. I appreciate the OP pointing this out, as I sure hadn't realized that since these 6 have been so tough. It's easy to forget how much we dominated that series for a while. Man though, these 6 years have felt like 60! I agree that next year finding a way to beat them is almost a must. Not for anyone's job security based on that alone, but just in general...

I think we can give them a run next year. Our offense was decent this year, should be better next. Our defense - well, it can't get any worse (I would hope not) - we're gonna need Warren to come back and the freshmen to improve. A second year in Gerg's system should help things. OSU should be better though as well. Don't lose a whole bunch, their Dline should be sick again if Heyward returns. And it's in Columbus. Hopefully we can match up with them better.

John Cooper wasn't the best coach we ever had...Michigan teams beat his ass up and down because WE were better coached by Michigan coaches. We didn't win because Cooper sucked, we won because we were better. Michigan's better coaches were Schembechler, Carr, Moeller, Yost, Crisler...Michigan MEN!!

Been following the program for 39 years, but hadn't considered the 11-10-1 figure. It helps a bit. Only part that's tough to stomach these last two seasons is the "foregone conclusion" feeling heading into The Game(s). That's not something I remember -- for either side -- very often. BTW I stumbled upon this site at the start of the season and am grateful to have found it.
