I've never understood why there isn't more push for Miles to be the #2 guy.  Maybe the administration just hates him, but it's a shame because Miles ticks virtually every single box we are looking for (proven experience, recruiting contacts in the south, love of Michigan) except the over-signing / academic angle, which can be explained by the fact that he's in the SEC West.

He should not be shrugged aside IMO.  If we end up hiring a guy like Schiano, and it comes out we didn't really pursue MIles, then it's going to be deflating and I can't see the fan base staying loyal especially if Schiano / Brady Hoke like hire, start struggling off the gate.

It has to be said that the issues with Miles are purely personal and have nothing to do with the actual football program.  That's not as bad as Harbaugh, who openly and publicly hurt MIchigan by criticizing the program's academic commitment.  As much as we like to brush that aside right now, it is a serious transgression IMO and I don't blame Brandon for demanding an apology (if that's what happened).  And it's silly to somehow justify what Harbaugh did by blaming Lloyd Carr for not hiring him as the QBs coach.  You never, ever sandbag your own alma mater like that, and it puts more cold water on the idea that Harbaugh will "come home" (he obviously didn't care about said home when he made the comment).  We haven't recruited anyone from CA in quite some time, and I'm sure the Harbaugh comment is still used against us.

The University has recently hired a President who's been publicly critical of the football program's academic commitment, unfairly in the eyes of many.

Now there's allegedly a choice between two candidates:

Candidate A has a very visible reputation for a low level of commitment to academics.

Candidate B has an excellent repuation in that regard, but once criticized the Michigan football program's academic commitment, unfairly in the eyes of many.

Which of these two gentlemen do you think will be seen as a better candidate by the current administration?

If Les Miles isn't #2 on the CC list behind JH I will have lost complete confidence in the entire AD.

This just makes no fucking sense.  His worst seasons have 8 wins and more often than not 10+.

Miles is an outstanding coach who loves Michigan.  Just listen to how he still talks about her, even while coaching LSU.

If JH passes on whatever offer we make, Hackett needs to call Les and make him the same offer.  Apologize for jerking him around in 07 and 10.

He'll be on the next flight and Michigan will be in the NC game within 3 years,
