Looks like all is not yet lost on that front.

Maybe--just maybe--the kid hasn't decided yet? I remember facing a tough decision over where to go to grad school. I made a choice eventually but it was tough and I'm still not sure it was the right one. (Not that I think it was the wrong one, just that both options were good...and different enough to make it difficult to compare the choices.)

Very possible.  He seemingly has two good options in front of him.  Family at Michigan and two best friends at MSU.  Both good football programs.  Probably a lot to think through.

He's either most likely double negative coming or single positive not coming or

single negative positive double negative with a twist of lime possibley

not, not going to for sure commit.  But if he does commit

I would most likely be positive and not negative about it.

"One of the visiting NJ recruits let me know that he stopped by to hangout with them while they were still in Ann Arbor."

That seems positive.

Seems like he is very conflicted and has no idea where he is going, but like another poster said...it is good to have family on MIchigan's side.  When he sits down to make the final decision, his family are the one's who will be at the kitchen table discussing it with him.  That's why I think he eventually ends up Michigan.  I'm pretty sure I've been wrong before though....

for all these uncertain pursuits to be closed. I would love for him to be in the class but if he doesn't, that won't take anything away from this already impressive class.

And they should take their time to make it right.  But if it were me, I would be so stressed and scared.  By this time of year I am sure some doors are closing and I would just want to secure my spot and get this recruiting thing out of the way...  But then, that is just me.  Wish the kid the best wherever he ends up going.
