LAmbeau stadium
Everyone is always talking about adding a team to the big ten. Who should it be. What are the divisions. While reading this people have taled about playing the championship in one of the big city NFL stadiums(detroit, INdy, Chicago), but i say nay.(ok detroit doesn't count as a big city http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1-rzbHgIKo) Every bowl season the big ten bitches about how all of the southern teams never have to play in the snow and cold. To show the nation how epic a snow game can be we should play the (hypothetical) Big ten championship in Lambeau Stadium. It's perfect. It has national name recognition and a storied football history. There's no better place to display Big Ten Football to the Country. Imagine Brent Musberger calling it," Hello from Lambeau Stadium, where Michigan and Ohio State are about to face off for chance to play USC in the Rose Bowl." How perfect is that?
I can get behind that, I think, except that I still don't like adding a team. But if we could pretty much assure a nationally televised Snow Bowl each year, I'd be behind it.
Soldier Field isn't like Ford Field it's an amazing field in it's own right and has a pretty storied history. It would also attract more people since it's more in the middle of the Big X(11) region.
Also this won't happen because splitting the Big Ten in two I think is a horrible idea.
This is just starting to get annoying with people just down-voting someone for no apparent reason. I can understand if something is stupid but come on.

Lambeau is not smart, there is a reason that bowl games are not played in the snow. No one wants to. They have bowl games down south or in domes for a reason.
The OP is not talking about a bowl game. People like to travel to warm places for bowl games, but for conference championship games, it is not a stupid idea to have a northern league play their game in northern weather conditions.
Bowl games would be the precedent meaning ipso facto, no one has wanted to play outside so why would they for a championship game.
As I said, bowl games are not the same thing as a conference championship game because bowl games are played in vacation destinations. The Big Ten would not play their championship game in Dallas or Orlando, they would play it in Detroit, Chicago, or Indianapolis. If the game is going to be played in a cold-weather city, why not play it in the cold weather. Some of us like old-school, smashmouth, cold weather football. The NFL plays outdoor games well into January. It is not stupid to suggest that Soldier Field, Wrigley Field, or even Lambeau Field are possible locations for this championship that won't happen

2. That's generally for the championship
3. The "real" championship game would be played a week or 2 after
4. It's not that much colder a week or 2 later
So how exactly could the Big Ten not have this hypothetical game outside? I think it's a bit absurd that we'd move our game to somewhere warm.. "Oh no it's cold out we can't play outside".
Which is the nicest, Lucas Oil, Ford Field, or Lambeau?
Um, Lambeau is an incredibly nice stadium that was renovated just recently. It is not some sort of old, worn down hellhole like the Orange Bowl or something. It is an excellent place to play football
Probably lucas because it's the newest but it's a dome. The championship cant be in a dome

Into 2 conferences and having a championship game is a horrible idea.
1. It kills the significance of "The Game"
2. There's no good logical way to keep the different conferences fair and keep the rivalry games.
3. There was a diary entry about how it's in the Big Ten (11)'s interest to not have a championship game since it's easier to get to the NC game.
So let me get this straight this board has become so ridiculous that people can't even state opinions without someone else harping on them and saying "Oh well aren't you special you probably get asked your opinion by RR or the Commissioner or Martin". Seriously this is getting ridiculous this is getting worse than Mlive.

Um, it's Lambeau Field, actually.
This doesn't solve any of the numerous problems that Big Ten expansion causes, i.e., how do you split the conference, who would you add as the twelfth team that could compete in all sports, how would rivalry games work (i.e. Michigan-Ohio State in the same division or different divisions?).
Lambeau is a great place to play football, but Big Ten expansion is not happening unless Notre Dame wants in, so there will be no championship game played there.
A bowl game, however...

Rome pounds it home on a daily basis when someone screws up. Jeff Gordon went to Wrigley Field to sing "Take Me Out to The Ballpark" and called it Wrigley Stadium and got booed. My initial thought when I saw his Lambeu Stadium.

I can't even imagine how excited media and players would be to go to destination like Green Bay, land of cheese curds.
Lambeau is cool, but I think it would be better is UW and Minny played there every other UW home game or something. The big problem is that there isn't anything else there and therefore no reason for people to show up other than the game. That's why Soldier Field would be so cool. Maybe a UI-UM game (Northwestern is too close and not a big enough draw)
Unfortunately Gopher fans don't travel, and with the completion of TCF Stadium this summer both teams now have pretty awesome venues already.
How annoying is it that Minnesota now has the most decadent (albeit small) stadium in the Big 10?
I'm with you on the idea, but having Musberger call the game is as far from the ideal situation as possible. I HATE Musberger and think that having him coddle OSU to a national audience would make me want to puke...
That being said, if we got the right play-by-play group to do it, I think Lambeau is perfect. Similar size town to Ann Arbor, albeit one dominated by manufacturing, and the cold weather thing would play to the conference's image. Since we're already made out to be a grind-it-out league, and since I don't think that image will change for a while, even if more teams do adopt the spread, why not embrace it?

The funny thing is that I think highly of Tebow, so that might be the only kind of fawning (other than around Michigan guys, which Musberger hardly ever does) that I actually appreciate.
But trying not to sound like I might actually be complementing him in any way, BM is just that...
I am sure Matt Millen would be willing to call the game. He has great confidence in Lambeau.

Soldier field would be cool too but it doesn't have the name recognition of Lambeau. I also like the idea of playing it in Green Bay. It just fits the Big Ten's personality. It's a smaller hard working town that doesn't have the glits and glamour. that's why it probably won't happen. But it defiantly has to be played outside. The whole point of thsi was to say i idn't want to play in a Dome because that would be whack.
OK, you like it in Lambeau even though it is not a great field, not a big city, not in the center of the conference and it "fits the Big Ten's personality." Just throw the logical choices out because they're "whack".
NO i said a Dome would be whack. Soldier field would be perfectly fine with me. i would prefer Lambeau but would be very disapointed if the game were played in a dome. cold weather is one of the many things about Big ten football that make it different and i would be upset to see it ignored in its biggest (hypothetical) showcase.
Green Bay is a great down, and Lambeau is a place where every football fan should see a game. However, since it's in the heart of Wisconsin, it wouldn't sell unless the Badgers were in the game. If there was a Big Ten Championship game/Bowl game there though, may I suggest the name: The Johnsonvile Beer Brat Bowl
This was a horrid suggestion. Chicago is sort of the epicenter of the Big Ten world, the place where you can't throw a rock without hitting an alumnus of a Big Ten school. Shafting them in favor of Green Bay is retarded.

Honestly i know that Chicago makes more sense but i think it would be sweet to have the game in Lambeau mostly because i really want to go to a game there and i don't care enought about the lions or the NFL to travel that far, but i would definately go if M was playing.
So this question is all about you? Yes, people in Chicago would care. It's home to the largest concentration of Big Ten fans and alumni in the world, and not many of them are going to brave a three hour trip up to freaking Green Bay in December.
So what I'm getting from this is that you would eschew three logical choices for a mediocre one, so you can go to a game there.
Really you don't think that a M OSU game would sell out. Sure if it was two smaller teams i.e. Indiana Northwestern it wouldn't sell out. It's like that for every conference but the bigger teams would travel and generally at least one of them would be in the game
A UM-OSU would sell out, mainly because Lambeau has roughly 65,000 seats. But say its a Purdue-Penn State championship game. Imagine that trip from Pennsylvania!
Chicago make more sense, but for a couple of scenarios Lambeau would be perfect. Mostly the rivalry games M OSU, M MSU, Wis minn, i can't think of any other rivalries right now. PSU is kinda boned no matter where it is. It would only add 4 more hours to a 10 hour trip
