Kovac's missed tackle

Submitted by amichfan2 on

I gotta admit I was pretty pissed on Kovac's missed tackle on the last TD drive. But  in hindsight realized that had he made the tackle which was beyond the first down marker, there probably wouldn't have been any time left after the next series of downs. (Speculating that they would have scored anyway) After all was said and done it's a good thing Indiana scored when they did.

I tend to agree that the outcome was the best, but IU's receivers are hard to tackle and Kovacs took a bad angle.

And in no way am I being a jerk, but this probably didn't need to be a separate post - there were quite a few board posts about the defense and the outcome of the game.

Not only would there have been little to no time left, but if Indiana scored from close to the goal line they may have been more compelled to go for two and the win.

I actually said to my friends right before that play, "If they get the 5 yards needed for a first down, we should just let them walk it in." If Kovacs had made that tackle, IU would've ran the clock down more and most likely scored anyway. So when Willis caught the ball, it was weird but I said,  "just go in" and was happy when Kovacs missed the tackle. Of course that left plenty of time for Denard to work his magic. My friends thought I was crazy at the time and if we hadn't of scored in the last 1:15 they would've probably killed me.

Moral of the story is: Denard is literally a life saver.

Is IU getting a TD with like 5 sec left and then going for 2.  Essentially not giving our O another chance to win.  I agree, letting them score was the best outcome.

...but I'm not interested in your opinion. The only person I trust goes by the name of "TheOracle". He always brings nonreactionary, reasoned analysis to the MgoBoard.
