Kinda OT: Awesome Weekend for Slippery Rock!

Submitted by JWG Wolverine on

Didn't get the chance to post this yesterday, and it seems better to post today when there is less thread traffic.

It wouldn't be a Michigan weekend without a check-in on our favorite tiny CFB team:

Slippery Rock

42

Kentucky State 21

Slippery Rock wins their opener at a non-conference opponent in KSU. Awesome beatodwn just like our game (Well, except that it wasn't against a possible SEC division champ)!

Also (and even more cool), a play of theirs in this game made the SportsCenter Top 10!

Tweet and video is below.

In other lower division news, UMD lost a home tie with ranked Sioux Falls, barely able to string any offense together. Last year the team had no D and an incredible offense, and this year they lost 26-6 to a team that didn't gain 200 yards. Ugly game. Hard uphill road to a playoff berth now. Meanwhile the other local team in Duluth, St. Scholastica, lost 98-0 in a game that got some national attention. Incredibly, they're favored to win their conference, play in which has yet to begin.

Your report of the 98-0 score intrigued me, so I Googled and found stories on it.  63-0 at the half was bad enough; hanging 35 more with what surely was the very end of the bench players is remarkable.

I spend summers in the middle of West Virginia, and listening to sports radio here I catch wind of Divison II schools in the area.  I'm so used to paying attention to only D1 action that I hardly know anything about the lower divisions.  But it always amazes me how some of these guys do make it to the NFL. Good for them!
