The Kerr Family and their U-M legacy in the CWS

This really is a family affair for them, this trip to Omaha. A rite of passage for Jimmy. Here's a recap of the three generations and what they've meant to Michigan baseball:

Jimmy's grandfather, John Kerr, was on the last national championship team for U-M baseball in '62. Jimmy's father, Derek Kerr, was on the last CWS team at U-M before the kinda predictable 35-year drought that began after 1984. And now it was left to Jimmy himself to end that drought in 2019

And here we now are. With Jimmy hoping to go full circle right to his grandfather's achievement of ending our 57-year old drought on top of the college baseball mountain.

The odds are very much daunting still. The rest of the world outside of Ann Arbor must be expecting us to go two and out in double elimination. But, if there was any team I wanted to face those long odds head on it would be this one

It's getting harder and harder to deny the "Team Of Destiny" narrative. I still don't know it's really right to think that way but here's all the unbelievable stuff we've gone through on this path: the 2 Out Walk-off Double to beat Illinois just to allow the run in the Big Ten tourney that we did indeed need to reach the tourney in the first place. The stunning upset the defending champs, Oregon State, had in our bracket as to where we didn't have to face them (would have liked to not duck them but who knows what would've happened if we didn't). The draw of a juggernaut UCLA team in the Super Regionals that we already knew about from a previous meeting that gave us the confidence that we could hang with them. Players scoring runs with injuries like broken fingers, and of course, Tommy Henry coming essentially off his death bed to pitch the biggest most memorable win arguably in program history

Win or lose the rest of the way, we can appreciate this team on a slightly other level compared most others before it. Can't wait to see them take the field in a few days against TTU looking to really settle the score with them. Shock the world, boys!

Dad said on WTKA that son's maternal great-grandfather (I think I have that right) played basketball with John Wooden at Purdue, and his number is retired.

Also, he did not know that his father threw over 300 pitches in one day to win that CWS until he was about 15.  His grandfather told him.

The Santa Clara team had Tim Cullen who played in the Big Show for a bunch of years and won World Championships with Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, Blue Moon Odom, Vida Blue and the rest of that Green/Yellow Mustache Gang with white-shoed Oakland A's and their pet donkey.....

Many years later he introduced me to my wife.....
