Justin Fields vs Joe Burrow
I’m sure most of you know that Joe Burrow was an OSU qb who transferred to LSU, It is certainly been said that OSU wanted Fields to win the job, and that Burrow wasn’t given a fair chance to win the job, and so he transferred. It’s been hard to miss that Burrow has been getting the job done for LSU, which evidences that he is good at throwing a football.
So, who do you like, do you think Burrow got a fair shake, and/or does this say something about OSU culture?
tl;dr Who do you like at QB ?
October 12th, 2019 at 9:11 PM ^
No, Joe Burrow has been at LSU two years. Him leaving had nothing to do with Fields, but with Haskins taking the job.
I’d still take Fields over him.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:16 PM ^
^^this.
seriously how can you start a thread and not even know this simple fact?
whomever we would have, burrow/fields, they’d be delivering the same mediocre performance we have now. #qbGuru.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:28 PM ^
I should have looked, and I would have remembered that. But still, we will play against Fields when it could have been Burrow, and OSU still did a little something that caused him to leave.
So anyway, who would you rather play against? And there’s still that chance that they play each other in the bowl season, which would bring up the QB comparisons.
(But I’m not in any way wondering how either of them would play for us. Wondering who’s better in general, and who’s better for us to play)

Negged for saying I SHOULD have checked. Someone’s a little frustrated this evening.

LOL op = mo-ron

"OSU still did a little something that caused him to leave."
You've been posting here for over 8 years now, but it certainly seems as though you just started watching college football. You have heard of Dwayne Haskins, haven't you?
October 12th, 2019 at 10:11 PM ^
I’m sorry I haven’t learned as much as you did in your one week and one post here. But way to start off by being a dick! Welcome!
October 12th, 2019 at 11:32 PM ^
It would have been playing Joe Burrow instead of Dwayne Haskins last year.
Joe Burrow has already said multiple times that he harbors no ill will, Urban Meyer and the coaches made it a fair competition between Haskins and him.
Urban even re-iterated that the decision between the two of them was razor thin, and he would have been comfortable starting either one in 2018-2019. That he super happy that Burrow was able to find a landing spot starting for another powerhouse P5 team (before LSU came calling, Burrow was ready to grad-transfer to UC/Luke Fickell).
October 13th, 2019 at 12:31 AM ^
Burrow got beat out by a dude who broke the BIG record WITH 50 TD passes.
October 13th, 2019 at 11:11 AM ^
Did a little something for Burrow to leave? In the fall camp 2017, Burrow broke a finger. So Haskins started and by the time Burrow was healed up Haskins was breaking records. The staff was said to be leaning towards Haskins but had burrow been healthy they probably platoon in the lesser OOC opponents to start the year before naming a starter, maybe? I was all in on the Burrow train so trust me his transfer was about playing time and nothing else.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:12 PM ^
Burrow, because he currently is not playing at OSU.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:15 PM ^
Hate em both. But always hate OSU more.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:20 PM ^
Wrong
October 12th, 2019 at 9:23 PM ^
Burrows broke his hand in fall camp in 2017 and fell behind in the depth chart. That is why he transferred. Fields was still in high school at the time.
October 13th, 2019 at 1:04 AM ^
Thank you! And--could be wrong--but I think it's Georgia that's feeling just a little bit woozy about these revolving doors tonight.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:26 PM ^
Martell and Baldwin were the ones who transferred because of Fields. Burrow transferred because of Haskins.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:34 PM ^
There we go. I was thinking Burrow, wasn’t Martell the one who was a little salty about his opportunity to win the job?
October 13th, 2019 at 12:32 AM ^
Martell left before the Spring. He never even competed with Fields. Burrow graduated from o$U
October 13th, 2019 at 3:53 PM ^
Yes he was graduate transfer btw.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:30 PM ^
For what OSU runs Fields is better for what LSU runs Burrows seems to be a great fit ... We need a big QB with a strong arm and awareness ...
October 12th, 2019 at 9:31 PM ^
Negged because the OP can’t get his facts straight.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:36 PM ^
Nice thread.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:39 PM ^
Who gives a shit?
October 12th, 2019 at 9:46 PM ^
Considering it was meant to be a debate on which QB we play in our chief rivalry game, I care a lot about who the OSU QB is this season. If you don’t, I’m not sure why you clicked and bothered to post.
If I was unclear about that, that’s on me.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
Nothing to see here, move along.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:44 PM ^
October 12th, 2019 at 9:51 PM ^
FWIW, I also am kind of interested in the Tua v Jalen Hurts debate. What’s interesting to me is that there are transfers at the most important position, even at Alabama.
October 13th, 2019 at 6:55 AM ^
And even at Michigan. We've had QB transfers. Not understanding your point.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:49 PM ^
Burrow would have sucked under Harbaugh.
October 12th, 2019 at 9:52 PM ^
I don’t blame you for getting drunk after that second half my guy
October 12th, 2019 at 10:28 PM ^
No alcohol related excuse - just spaced it pure and simple.
October 12th, 2019 at 10:10 PM ^
perhaps GA kept the wrong QB, and they should have kept/played Fields instead of Fromm
October 12th, 2019 at 10:14 PM ^
Yeah, I forgot to mention that point. A lot of QB transfer at the top flight programs. Can’t say I remember as much transferring among the blue bloods, but maybe this is the way things are heading.
October 12th, 2019 at 10:17 PM ^
Burrow has played great this year, but he does not have the upside that Fields does, nor does he have the running ability. I think OSU made the right choice. Fields wasn't going there to sit on the bench.
October 12th, 2019 at 10:25 PM ^
Fields might not have transferred in if Burrow hadn’t transferred out. But that’s getting pretty speculative. I definitely agree that Fields has more that OSU kind of look to his game. (Current OSU look. They’ve played pro-style QBs in their time, but not recently. I won’t be stunned though, if Burrow has the best NFL career of their recent group of QBs. Dylan M may be a nice combo of mobile with pro arm and skills when his time comes up.
October 13th, 2019 at 11:16 AM ^
Omg, burrow transferred 2 years ago this is his 2nd year @ LSU, he was a graduate transfer. OSU chose Haskins, Burrow transferred, played last year @ LSU. Fields transferred January of this year.
October 12th, 2019 at 10:32 PM ^
Haskins was the better QB in 2018. OSU made the right call and Burrow grad transferred out to start in 2018. OSU fans love Burrow, Ohio kid, tearing up the SEC.
Had he stayed at OSU as a back up for 2019 Fields wouldn’t be there.
Both are better than Martell but I would keep an eye on Matt Baldwin at TCU.
OSU has been reeling in QBs and making them fit since Troy Smith. They’re looking at 2-top ten 2020 guys and have a top 3 2021 commit.
I’m glad we hired the QB whisper...
October 12th, 2019 at 11:38 PM ^
I agree with looking out for Matt Baldwin. He was the first QB that was handpicked/recruited by Ryan Day when the latter first joined as co-OC.
During bowl practice at the end of the 2018 season, senior WRs Terry McLaurin and Jonnie Dixon were praising Baldwin for playing way above the level expected of a freshman. They both said Baldwin’s arm talent really surprised them the whole month.
silence about Tate Martell though
October 13th, 2019 at 11:36 AM ^
I think you may be confusing Baldwin with someone else. I don’t think he ever went through contact drills at all. Rehabbed his entire Freshman year after he blew out his knee in the playoffs his senior year in HS. He transferred this past spring I believe. I doubt he would have got reps in bowl practice with Chugunov and Martell ahead of him.
October 12th, 2019 at 11:59 PM ^
Yeh, unfortunately they're probably going to real in the hottest 2020 QB right now in CJ Stroud and still keep Jack Miller committed (maybe) who's been injured. Their 2021 commit McCord is a top 2 or 3 QB and in everyone's top 30 overall. Just sickening.
October 12th, 2019 at 10:37 PM ^
Some schools have a ruthless best guy plays culture, and some schools play the best player regardless of whose fee-fees it’ll hurt.
Ohio State plays the best guy, even when they have a guy who goes on a magical run that culminates in a national title. They worry more about winning games than they do “seniority”
So they’d play the guy who played best, and if the other guy transferred or if his dad/brother whine about it on instagram, they’d tell him to leave if he didn’t like it.
October 12th, 2019 at 10:44 PM ^
What would you have done with Tua v Jalen if you were Saban?
October 12th, 2019 at 11:28 PM ^
this is hilarious
October 13th, 2019 at 11:44 AM ^
Yes it is, sadly. I now understand why Buckeye fans venture over here.
October 12th, 2019 at 11:34 PM ^
Oops, must be Russian hackers.
I was trying to go to MGoBlog but instead got redirected to 11 Worriers.
October 13th, 2019 at 8:52 AM ^
Not a lot of worriers over there lately
October 12th, 2019 at 11:43 PM ^
Burrow was 21/24 293 yards 3 tds against that Florida defense.
Thats better than what Fields has on his resume so far this year.
All I know is they’re both really good.
October 13th, 2019 at 9:43 AM ^
Fields opens up a whole new can of worms with his running, something that Burrow is lacking. With that said though, I'd go with Burrow as the better NFL prospect. But as we all know, CF and the NFL are different beasts. Success in one doesn't guarantee success in the other. Enough said.
October 12th, 2019 at 11:54 PM ^
It was Haskins vs Burrow. And to be fair, Haskins shattered many B1G records last year. Both were dynamite QBs and it was one or the other. One would win the job - the other was going to transfer and every OSU fan realized it just like it would happen at any school.
October 13th, 2019 at 7:31 AM ^
Burrow left because Haskins - not Fields.
