Justin Fields vs Joe Burrow

Submitted by rockydude on October 12th, 2019 at 9:08 PM

I’m sure most of you know that Joe Burrow was an OSU qb who transferred to LSU, It is certainly been said that OSU wanted Fields to win the job, and that Burrow wasn’t given a fair chance to win the job, and so he transferred. It’s been hard to miss that Burrow has been getting the job done for LSU, which evidences that he is good at throwing a football.

So, who do you like, do you think Burrow got a fair shake, and/or does this say something about OSU culture?

tl;dr  Who do you like at QB ?

No, Joe Burrow has been at LSU two years. Him leaving had nothing to do with Fields, but with Haskins taking the job.

I’d still take Fields over him.

I should have looked, and I would have remembered that. But still, we will play against Fields when it could have been Burrow, and OSU still did a little something that caused him to leave.

So anyway, who would you rather play against? And there’s still that chance that they play each other in the bowl season, which would bring up the QB comparisons.

(But I’m not in any way wondering how either of them would play for us. Wondering who’s better in general, and who’s better for us to play)

It would have been playing Joe Burrow instead of Dwayne Haskins last year.

Joe Burrow has already said multiple times that he harbors no ill will, Urban Meyer and the coaches made it a fair competition between Haskins and him.

Urban even re-iterated that the decision between the two of them was razor thin, and he would have been comfortable starting either one in 2018-2019. That he super happy that Burrow was able to find a landing spot starting for another powerhouse P5 team (before LSU came calling, Burrow was ready to grad-transfer to UC/Luke Fickell).

Did a little something for Burrow to leave? In the fall camp 2017, Burrow broke a finger. So Haskins started and by the time Burrow was healed up Haskins was breaking records. The staff was said to be leaning towards Haskins but had burrow been healthy they probably platoon in the lesser OOC opponents to start the year before naming a starter, maybe? I was all in on the Burrow train so trust me his transfer was about playing time and nothing else.

Burrows broke his hand in fall camp in 2017 and fell behind in the depth chart.  That is why he transferred.  Fields was still in high school at the time.

Martell and Baldwin were the ones who transferred because of Fields. Burrow transferred because of Haskins.

Considering it was meant to be a debate on which QB we play in our chief rivalry game, I care a lot about who the OSU QB is this season.  If you don’t, I’m not sure why you clicked and bothered to post.

If I was unclear about that, that’s on me.

Both Burrow and Fields are excellent. Must be nice to lose such great talent only to replace that person With someone who is as good or better. I wish UM had that “problem.”

Burrow has played great this year, but he does not have the upside that Fields does, nor does he have the running ability.  I think OSU made the right choice.  Fields wasn't going there to sit on the bench.

Fields might not have transferred in if Burrow hadn’t transferred out. But that’s getting pretty speculative. I definitely agree that Fields has more that OSU kind of look to his game. (Current OSU look. They’ve played pro-style QBs in their time, but not recently. I won’t be stunned though, if Burrow has the best NFL career of their recent group of QBs. Dylan M may be a nice combo of mobile with pro arm and skills when his time comes up.

Haskins was the better QB in 2018. OSU made the right call and Burrow grad transferred out to start in 2018. OSU fans love Burrow, Ohio kid, tearing up the SEC.

Had he stayed at OSU as a back up for 2019 Fields wouldn’t be there.

Both are better than Martell but I would keep an eye on Matt Baldwin at TCU.

OSU has been reeling in QBs and making them fit since Troy Smith.  They’re looking at 2-top ten 2020 guys and have a top 3 2021 commit.

I’m glad we hired the QB whisper...

I agree with looking out for Matt Baldwin. He was the first QB that was handpicked/recruited by Ryan Day when the latter first joined as co-OC.

During bowl practice at the end of the 2018 season, senior WRs Terry McLaurin and Jonnie Dixon were praising Baldwin for playing way above the level expected of a freshman. They both said Baldwin’s arm talent really surprised them the whole month.

silence about Tate Martell though

I think you may be confusing Baldwin with someone else. I don’t think he ever went through contact drills at all. Rehabbed his entire Freshman year after he blew out his knee in the playoffs his senior year in HS. He transferred this past spring I believe. I doubt he would have got reps in bowl practice with Chugunov and Martell ahead of him.

Some schools have a ruthless best guy plays culture, and some schools play the best player regardless of whose fee-fees it’ll hurt.

Ohio State plays the best guy, even when they have a guy who goes on a magical run that culminates in a national title. They worry more about winning games than they do “seniority”

So they’d play the guy who played best, and if the other guy transferred or if his dad/brother whine about it on instagram, they’d tell him to leave if he didn’t like it.

Burrow was 21/24 293 yards 3 tds against that Florida defense.

Thats better than what Fields has on his resume so far this year.

All I know is they’re both really good.

Fields opens up a whole new can of worms with his running, something that Burrow is lacking. With that said though, I'd go with Burrow as the better NFL prospect. But as we all know, CF and the  NFL are different beasts. Success in one doesn't guarantee success in the other. Enough said.

It was Haskins vs Burrow. And to be fair, Haskins shattered many B1G records last year. Both were dynamite QBs and it was one or the other. One would win the job - the other was going to transfer and every OSU fan realized it just like it would happen at any school.
