Join Us: Telluride CO September 2 - Florida Game

Submitted by Esterhaus on

As in the past, there will be a group of us Wolverines watching the Florida game at former Meechigan Football player Jeff Smokevitch's place, The Brown Dog Tavern in Telluride Colorado. Last year Jeff opened the place very early for those of us - more than 20 in number including mountain types - who didn't bring children (ah, the Colorado laws must be observed). This year arrive early because the game plays during ordinary business hours, and Smoke's place is crowded.

If in the area, show your support for a Wolverine alum by sharing fun with us at The Brown Dog. Smoke makes the best pizza, particularly Detroit pizza, west of the Mississippi, no joke, as the awards testify.

Hope to see you there and at Telluride Film Fest. I'm the shaven-headed big dude sporting the Michigan Wolverine on his head.

I clicked on the link. I don't know if I'll ever be in Telluride, but if I am I'll be sure to check it out. Seems like a good place to eat.

Live in Colorado and have had many great times (and pizza) at that establishemt! Was there last year to see Pearl Jam at Ride Fest, and took many pictures of the Michigan memorabilia! Keep up the good work, and I will look for you this season!

Is the real deal. Excellent pizza. Was fortunate enough to eat there a couple of years ago. Oh yeah, and Telluride is amazingly beautiful. Won't be able to get there for the Florida game unfortunately, but I bet it will be a great time.

Used to love Telluride back in the day before it was "discovered" by rich people. Still a cool town.

Since the town began converting from mineral mining to skiing/outdoor sports. The no arsehole rule still applies, and the Aspen crowd remains unwelcome, which is a big part of why we love the place and Wolverines feel at home there. Being situated at 9,500ft above msl and ascending upwards towards 14,000 msl with very thin and dry nosebleed air helps keep out the coastal riff raff too. We love it, and apparently so do many other Wolverines given our abundance there.

I love Telluride! We stopped in after climbing Mt. Wilson and I may try to bag Sneffles the morning of the game. Might see you guys there!

Put in a Maybe 2 to show up.  Still debating on going to the BIG D for the actual game but wifey (who is a semi-Gator fan) has things that might get in the way so would just go to Telluride for the weekend.

I live in the area and this sounds like a great time. I'll have an almost two year old in tow though.  Is this fine establishment kid friendly?

No, when the games start early EST and the establishment is supposed to be closed. Last year I felt for a family with young kids who weren't allowed inside until after the early game had started and the regular opening timed in. Probably something to do with insurance.

The first game this year starts after Brown Dog regular hours are in play, so please do stop by. We'll likely have 25+ Wolverine fans in attendance, and it's a fun group.

Last year some OSU fans from out of town stopped by and asked the bartend if she would please change the channel to the OSU game. As if on cue everybody watching the game swiveled their heads in unison toward the Buckeyes and shouted unscripted "Wrong Bar!!!!
It was beautiful man.

See you then and there.

As we know from Jeff's award winning trips to Italy.

Probably the coolest place in the USA to watch these games.  The MIchigan memorabilia everywhere heightens the atmosphere.
