Jason Whitlock thinks Harbaugh is massively overrated

The reason: He's hasn't beaten a loaded OSU and won a national championship in two years, that's why!!

I mean, forget the fact that Harbaugh was one 4th down call away from going to the Big Ten championship and the college football playoff, he's 0-2 against Urban Meyer so CLEARLY he's not worth the bucketloads of cash we're paying him.

Yeah ok gif.

WHY OH WHY DID CUTCLIFFE TURN US DOWN?!? NOW WE'RE STUCK WITH THIS FAILURE!!

/s

(If you ask me Whitlock is still butthurt over Brady Hoke failing after years of talking him up.)

Wow dude.  There is zero here that has anything to do with Brian.  We're a fanbase that takes issue with a windbag asking Harbaugh to "show him something" when we believe Harbaugh has in fact shown us a ton.  An inch from beating Ohio State AT the Shoe, crushing Penn State, flipping the MSU rivalry 100% in our favor for the foreseeable future, destroying an SEC conference champ, coming within a point of beating Florida State with no Peppers or Butt and a QB with a broken collarbaone, top 5 recruiting classes, insane QB and WR recruiting, and you think this has anything to do with Brian?

Take a nap.

Just stop dude. Realign your expectations. Bama has like 7 straight # 1 recruiting classes. Ohio State can't even touch them on the recruiting trail, and they outclass us by some distance.

Harbaugh is an amazing coach, and we will win a National Championship under him. Hopefully more than that. But Bama has 5 in ten years. Not even Bama can sustain that level of winning in this era of College Football where Clemson, Florida State, Ohio St., Michigan, Oklahoma, will challenge for that title every year. USC, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Miami (YTM) could all be joining that group soon enough as perennial challengers.

Harbaugh has finished with back to back top 12 teams for the first time since the early 2000s. If things go our way we can snatch two in a 10 year span and match the best national success that Michigan has had since winning national titles from 1901 to 1904. Otherwise just winning one every 10-15 years and being in the national discussion year in and year out should be your expectation.

Shocked that guy has a radio or tv show.  Maybe it's just me, but hearing that many double negatives and "aint no ways" in sentence after sentence makes my skin crawl.

Rather than ask why Harbaugh should sit at the table with Saban, Meyer and Bear Bryant, they should be asking how a guy who can take a Ball State journalism degree and sound less educated than a 5th grader has a seat at the table with Cowherd, Jackson and Lewis.

Baffled.

Jason is simply the foil for Colin and the other guys on the show. Jason says Coach Jim has to "prove himself" this season by taking a team that replaces 16-17 starters and beating Ohio State, among others. Such a victory could of course happen, but most observers believe another season or two will have to pass before M mounts a serious challenge for BIG-East leadership. This view seemed to be the one voiced by the others on the show. all of whom appeared to be Coach Jim fans.

Sports talk shows need to generate controversy, and that's apparently what Jason is there for --- nothing more.

I don't think Harbaugh is overrated by any stretch. He made the team a playoff contender less than two years after they were a national laughingstock. But I also think that for the money he's getting paid, he can't afford to go 0-3 against OSU this year.

Not that I would even consider the idea of firing Harbaugh if we go 0-3 this year, but the pressure is on now. You go 0-3 and a lot of people will seriously question if Harbaugh will ever beat Meyer. I know some people here will jump all over me and say that Harbaugh is absolutely capable of beating Meyer (which he is), but 0-3 would be 0-3. Capability of winning is not the same as actually winning.

Sorry, I will shut down my Debbie Downer-ism now.

Y'all do realize the more you click on link from these blowhard talking heads and continue their conversations, the more relevant you make them and the more money you make them, right? They literally talk about Harbaugh for 1 reason - because it makes them money.  Stop clicking on their links, stop trying to convince them they're wrong, because your reaction is what makes them $.  It's pretty simple.

And on a related note.... Nobody at UM is going to start calling for Harbaugh's head if he loses to OSU this year.  And Whitlock knows that.  But acknowledging that doesn't make Whitlock any $.

Just say no to hot takes.

As a coach, Harbaugh has been hugely successful everywhere he has coached, far exceeding expectations at his last three jobs. That is why expectations are so high for him now.

As a writer, commentator, analyst, Whitlock has been a failure everywhere he has been.

If we're making predictions for the future, I expect the trends for both to continue.

JW was the number one media supporter of Brady Hoke getting the Michigan jjob.  If you were to read his article in making the case for Brady, you'd likely be swayed to believe he's THE BEST coach for Michigan.  Undoubtedly, he's still sore over Hoke's faillure to make Michigan a consistent winner as he had predicted.  Still, jamming Jimmy up with terrible analyses only serves to diminsh his already diminished reputation as a sports writer.

the big one at any level.

He's a good coach, but not a great one.

He is great for Michigan.

Let's be happy with that. A good coach, great booster, joy to watch.

This insistence that he's the equal of Urban Meyer or Nick Saban despite the truth of his record doesn't help us.

It's funny how you keep showing up only when you have a negative take to parrot, then disappear until another pops up. And this "never won anything" narrative is comically false. But we've been over it before, so I won't bother pointing out why again.

Jason Whitlock was one of the most outspoken people on national TV ripping those cheating skunk officials for last years Michigan-Ohio State game. He stepped up and blasted those refs clear as day.

If he wants to play the "bad guy" to stir up a panel conversation about Jim Harbaugh, I ain't trippin' about that. Just a made-for-TV controversy.
