Jake Butt with more knee troubles
Had some promising plays in the preseason. Tough to see it keep happening to him.

Fuckity, Fuck, Fuck!

Some people's bodies just can't take it. I hope he's not doing long term damage with all these injuries.

How could he not be? I hope the money he makes gets him the best possible medical care in the future.

Some things can be made “good as new” with surgery. Others can’t.
August 28th, 2019 at 3:30 PM ^
Well, shit.
Really crappy situation
August 28th, 2019 at 3:41 PM ^
This sucks, was just told he was healthy and ready to go.
August 28th, 2019 at 3:47 PM ^
Might be time to think about hanging it up...
August 28th, 2019 at 3:51 PM ^
Note that this is NOT another ACL tear and is NOT expected to be season-ending.
August 28th, 2019 at 3:53 PM ^
Sad, but I liked the comment that it's better than him being "Jake Knee with butt trouble".
August 28th, 2019 at 3:58 PM ^
Damn! I live in Denver so I want Jake to be Bronco for many years. 1) I hope he is able to get fully healthy and have a long career, and 2) I hope the Broncos do not release him, because he'll get a chance somewhere else.
August 28th, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
I have a feeling the Broncos will release either Butt and/or Jeff Heuerman. They just invested a 1st round pick in TE Noah Fant from Iowa, and neither Butt or Heuerman have proven they can be healthy for an extended amount of time.

to think that people actually hand out shit for these guys sitting-out non-CFP bowl games -- changed his entire life in one meaningless play.
August 28th, 2019 at 4:14 PM ^
Injuries happen at anytime, to blame not playing in a bowl game because of injury concerns seems silly to me. Guys are dropping in practice, pre-season games, etc. Injuries are a part of sports and you can’t sit on the sidelines until your team makes the playoffs or championship game...
August 28th, 2019 at 10:10 PM ^
Yes guys can get hurt at any time, but considering Butt was expected to be drafted in the second round but was ultimately selected in the fifth, and virtually all of that was due to him tearing his ACL, it's not some insignificant injury. And more generally, people shit on guys who sit out bowl games and this is just an example/justification for why guys may do so.
August 28th, 2019 at 5:16 PM ^
There's a difference between a surefire Day 1/2 draft pick (Butt, Peppers, Bush) sitting out and a potential practice squad player (Higdon). I think the latter guys are the one making people scratch their heads.
August 28th, 2019 at 10:14 PM ^
If anything, the latter guys make more sense to me. Butt got hurt and still got drafted and, in theory, received good medical care from the Broncos because they invested something in him. Had Higdon gotten hurt nobody would have even considered drafting him and he'd be a guy with a nasty injury and few resources to use to recover from it (I'm honestly not sure how much support the university medical team needs to provide now-former players after their last appearance).

Jake is injury prone. There is not a direct line between that bowl injury and his derailed NFL career.
August 28th, 2019 at 4:18 PM ^
The more trouble Butt has with his knee the more sitting out of a bowl game seems like a valid idea...I hope he recovers well!
August 28th, 2019 at 4:43 PM ^
Truthfully I don't think sitting out the bowl game would have made a difference.
August 28th, 2019 at 5:22 PM ^
Jake Butt has had three knee injuries in the last five years, two of them occurred during NON-contact drills. More valid for Jake Butt would be to sit out non-contact drills.

How many of those came before he injured is knee in the Orange Bowl? It clearly started with that. Obviously he could have had that injury anywhere but if he had the first literally any time after that game he would have a lot more financial security.

It must be nice to be totally unencumbered by facts.
Sophomore season[edit]
The following season, Butt missed the first two games of the season while recuperating from a torn ACL. He made his season debut in Week 3...

Sitting out a bowl game has nothing to do with it. His last acl injury was during a non contact drill He’s had a rash of bad luck one football game has not made or broken his career
August 28th, 2019 at 9:24 PM ^
Poor bastard
August 28th, 2019 at 10:04 PM ^
Has to be tough on him. He has all pro ability but his knees won’t hold out. He’s getting to the point if he continues to have problems after this latest procedure he may just want to call it career
August 28th, 2019 at 10:07 PM ^
To everyone who complained about guys skipping bowl games to preserve their bodies, this is an example of what can result. I recognize guys can be hurt at any time, but Jake Butt's career seems to have been significantly altered because of an injury against FSU in a bowl game that ultimately didn't amount to much.
August 28th, 2019 at 11:54 PM ^
However, if the bowl game meant a lot to you, you would have been good with Butt suffering an injury. You ought to tell him that, I'm sure that would make him feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
August 29th, 2019 at 10:16 AM ^
He had a previous knee injury in college. Don't oversell the bowl injury. He clearly has problems with his knees unrelated to bowl games.
August 29th, 2019 at 4:46 PM ^
Broncos will release him, Patriots will pick him up, and he will be an all pro TE within 2 years.
