IU game - traffic alert
I purchased my tickets through the IU ticket office (in the U of M section !) and just recieved the following e-mail tonight:
IU vs. MICHIGAN - TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Due to construction on the 45/46 Bypass in the area between S.R. 37 and Walnut Street, congestion is expected on major roadways and thoroughfares leading to Memorial Stadium for the game on Oct. 2nd.
A large crowd is expected, and fans coming to Memorial Stadium are encouraged to plan ahead, arrive early, and consider all of your transit options by visiting: http://iuhoosiers.cstv.com/facilities/ind-facilities-memorial-traffic.html

That's nice of them to alert visiting fans about local traffic issues. Good on Indiana.

They just want people to like 'um. Which is tough with ND in your state.

I'm pretty sure the SW corner of the bypass around Indianapolis where IN-37 is accessed to Bloomington is still a mess so you might want to plan your way and have an alternate set up if you are coming south through Indy.

I am an IU student and my apartment is right next to the bypass and the traffic is terrible there on a normal day. On game day it will be more than terrible and will be backed up for miles. I would really advise people to show up early. I wouldn't want any Michigan fans to miss Denard Robinson putting up 300yrds of offense in the first quarter.

Traffic into Memorial Stadium is awful even when there is no construction. If you can't get there the night before I'd highly recommend making an entire day out of it and tailgating in the massive parking lots surrounding the stadium.
Honestly, if you can get there the night before it's worth it. Bloomington is a really nice town with some fun bars. It's probably my favorite Big Ten location outside of Ann Arbor.

I should be getting there by noon at the latest so hopefully that won't leave me too screwed by traffic.

To take 65-S from Indianapolis, then take 46-W into Bloomington? It adds about 30 minutes to the normal route without traffic, but it might save time due to the congestion on 37 which is sounding like a nightmare.

would be great to get a confirmation on this idea from a knowledgable informant.

Take I65 South to Columbus, HOLLER!, and exit at exit 68 on 46 west towards bloomington. 46 is a 2 lane highway through brown county (very beautiful drive)... does add about 30 minutes to the drive. I advise this route.... I'm very familiar with it. I'll be taking it from West Lafayette...

I will be leaving around 8am from the northside of Indy. Anyone want to meet up and caravan down to Btown?
