The smells. The noise. The atmosphere. That first walk through the tunnel, the stadium opening up in front of you.

Players come out for warmups. Polite applause. One last check of the starting offensive line.

The recorded music ceases, a silent pause, and then a voice: "Good Afternoon..."

We get the same adrenaline rush as the drums play, the fanfare begins, the drum major leans back...

Nerves. Excitement. Cheering. Joy. Thousands of fists in the air, crying: "Hail!"

A ball is placed on a tee. The kicker holds up one hand. In the stadium, watching in a living room, listening in a car, all around the world, together. All holding our breath.

Eleven players run forward.

Football is here.

I'm lying in bed about to get up and watch my wife, daughter and sister in law run in a 4 miler for breast cancer awareness and all I can think about is football that's over 13 hours away. Holy crap I can't wait.

About the throw the pork butt on the Big Green Egg.  The challenge for the day will be to refrain from cracking the beers until a decent hour.  Since I'm at home and excited as hell, I'm hoping I can hold out until at least noon.  Most importantly:

WIN THE GAME!

At last, we've arrived at the start of another season.

I guess I'll line up the Snowflake threads now because of the uncertainty on how MGoBlog 3.0 is going to work with this concept, or indeed IF it will even be feasible.

Well, here at last, dear friends, on the shores of Lake Michigan, comes the end of our preseason in Ann Arbor. Go Blue! I will not say: do not weep; for not all tears are an evil.

So, I begin my first football season without my dad. I went to my first game with him in ‘73. Went down to South Bend yesterday to do nothing but put a hex on the town... just like dad used to do week of the ND game. Went over to see mom... it’s her first season without dad in 57 years (at least). She’s in good spirits but it’s gotta be hard. I’ve got one of my brothers coming over to watch the game... plenty of food, beers, etc. I’m throwing dad’s old Ufer LP on the record player now.  I’m expecting dad to put a hex on touchdown Jesus. GO BLUE!
