Interesting Michigan Tournament Uni Question

Submitted by Yostal on

From UniWatch this morning:

Michigan is set to play Tennessee in the NCAA tournament. The Wolverines are the higher seed, which means they’ll probably wear their home uniform.

The issue: Michigan likes to wear its yellow (“maize”) uniforms in big games. And NCAA chalk after being picked to finish like, ninth in the Big Ten or something would certainly count as a big game. But Tennessee’s road uniforms are a rather pale shade of orange, which will probably be too close. Can Michigan make them wear white? Or will yellow be considered too close to that, too? What’s the rule in the NCAA?

Do we know the answer to this?

Page 17 of the participant manual:

"Teams must bring both light and dark uniforms.  The higher seeded team will wear its light uniforms.  If the higher seeded team's light uniforms are not in a color contrasting with the lower seeded team's uniforms, the lower seeded team must adjust and wear a contrasting color."

I assume that if Michigan brings Maize as their "light" uniform and Blue as their "dark" uniform, that would force Tennessee to wear their white uniforms in the first game.
