Illinois DE Bobby Roundtree suffers spinal injury
It was apparently a swimming (read: diving) accident.
Terrible, terrible news. Prayers for him and his family.

As the information in that linked story is obviously very sketchy, I hope we all wake up tomorrow and find that his injuries aren't too serious.
But to all Moms and Dads: please never stop stressing to your loved ones the dangers of not knowing what the depth is before diving in. Too many of us know someone who was injured in a diving accident. Don't let it be someone you care about!
Yes, thanks for making this point. One of my best friends in high school suffered a cervical spine injury from diving into shallow water.
I always tell my kids to jump in feet first, no matter the depth. Ever since I read "The Dive from Clausen's Pier," I've had an irrational fear of exactly this type of thing.

It doesn’t have to necessarily be a diving accident although there’s a 99% chance it was. I broke my c-5 by trying to jump over a giant wave and it took my feet out from under me in midair and I landed on my head wrong in the valley of the waves. Hopefully he didn’t damage his spinal cord too significantly and will make a full recovery!!
