I'm sure he'll have a good game but stats for DE's can be fickle things - while rampant against Maryland for example, Hutch didn't have any sacks.  Just getting on everyone's radar so they watch is probably a win though - maybe he'll be the first player to basically win the Heisman because of PFF ratings.

Boy, other teams fans sure are salty over Hutchinson being nominated. I get they want their own teams players, but come on, watch the tape. Hutch is unstoppable and relentless.

I’m assuming this poll has no real bearing on anything? Still voted for Aidan of course, but didn’t know if it amounts to anything or not

He's got to have a big game on Saturday.

I've said before, I just don't see it. Not because he's not the best player in the country...but because this is Kirk Ferentz, he'll gladly run 2 and 3 man routes, keeping extra TEs and backs in to double team Hutchinson.

I actually think the back 7 is going to go OFF on Saturday.

Ohio State had the talent and is arrogant enough to think they could handle Hutch 1 on 1, and keep him off balance with double teams.

I don't think Iowa plays a single down where he doesn't see 2 guys. It's just the conservative nature of the program.

I also see them running the ball...A LOT.

And if he performs well...even if he gets a UFR +18.  Without 2 or 3 sacks, a FF, glamor plays...it won't matter how many people are watching.

No one is giving him the Heisman for setting up sacks for Ojabo on the other side just because he's taking on 2.5 guys on his side.  Only folks like us see that stuff.

...and THAT is my point.

OSU was arrogant enough to think "we'll leave our first team OT on him and be fine, occasionally chip him with a RB."  He ate them up.  First time he saw one guy in forever.

Iowa will bring in another OT if it means keeping him away from the QB. Hell, they'll bring in 2 more.

They're happy to punt and try to win a FG fest, OSU wants to send out WRs and TEs and score, score, score. We dominated OSU and they still scored 3 TDs in a row. It almost doesn't make sense until you watch it. But it's HOW we made them score those TDs that won the game.

--------------------

The best way for Hutchinson to go off has nothing to do with his effort or skill.

The best way for Hutchinson to go off is for OUR offense to put up points. Do that, and make them chase the score, make them predictable, make them have to take that double team off and send more receivers into the play.  Then feast.

But if they're within 10 points, it's going to be on the back 7 to create plays.

Blitzing Dax could be huge with all the attention on the edge rushers. Double covering guys (since they're only sending out 2 or 3) and getting tipped balls for INTs. That's where we can open the game up, create short fields, score, get up enough to let Hutch go chase his Heisman.

Yes, Iowa watched game film on Hutch and will adjust their game plan accordingly.  They probably would prefer to have their running game front and center, anyway.  If they put too much attention on Hutch (if that’s even possible), they better watch out for Ojabo, Ross, and Gray.  All I can say is that Iowa better not get behind the sticks.

Might help to vote where it actually matters. Vote once per day here and the public vote counts for one vote. (928 other human voters)
