How many of us knew that once Woody acknowledged getting MSU on probation?

It’s from an OSU fanboard. They laughed then of course.

Looks like Ryan Day is trying to repeat history.

I remember. My first Michigan game was November 22, 1969. I was a young boy whose parents had left him home alone. I turned on the new Zenith color console television and manually turned the dial to channel 7 (ABC). I saw a fat man in a white short-sleeved shirt who looked like a mean S.O.B. Ever since that day, I've been hooked for life.

I posted about this four days ago. Woody did it after MSU upset OSU in the '74 game.

Difference between Day and Woody is that while Day says "No comment", Woody was proud about it and bragged about doing it.

And, the other difference was that MSU richly deserved it, committing multiple major violations, with over 70 instances of improper recruiting, payments to athletes and improper fundraising.

I remember it well.

I posted this last week in response to a post claiming B1G teams didn’t do this back in the olden days.

BTW, MSU beat Ohio State in 1971, 1972 & 1974. In 1972 & 1974, it was the only regular season loss for the Buckeyes. They were ranked #1 in 1974 when they lost to MSU.

Woody was not happy and got his revenge.

MSU was perpetually in trouble. I'll give Groucho Mark one thing, and one thing only: He was the only MSU football coach ever to win a Big Ten title without either (i) the MSU athletic department being on NCAA or Big 10 probation at the time, or (ii) the MSU athletic department later going on probation as a result of violations during the title year. Look it up. Amazing but true. Not Biggie, not Duffy, not Rodgers, not Perles. None of them.

This is like a guy with 100 pounds of fentanyl in his car calling 911 about a car that is going 5 over. It’s so absurd there is no other read here. They are taking Harbaugh down (at least trying)
