The horrific catastrophe averted and title re-claimed from Sat night beatdown: UM #1 in Win %
Wanted to post this all week and probably would have been wise since points seem to be not working as I was positive it would have set a Neg record.
An OSU win on Saturday and a Michigan loss would have bumped The Greatest Football Team in History to 3rd place in Win% all time.
That's right. Ohio State would have been 8/100,000ths of a % ahead of us.
But - as it stands - with the win and a Boise State bye.... Michigan has re-claimed its rightful place as #1 in Win% (and OSU is still 3rd).
Victors .72965
Broncs .7296
OSU ..72891
FTRecord book - I rely on several sites for stats. These stats seem to be not in dispute although some OSU records are on other records databases. I did rely on two sites I refer to frequently as well as both Michigan's and OSU's official athletic archive. I didn't do the same for Boise. And I've never found a site where Michigan's records are in dispute when it comes to Wins and Losses.

Honest question... Do you personally value the percentage over the number of total wins? If so, why?
October 28th, 2019 at 12:14 AM ^
Any stat that has Boise State as one of the top 3 best programs ever is probably fine to not take seriously
October 28th, 2019 at 12:24 AM ^
We don't even tout that we're #1 in all-time win percentage, either.
Boise State hasn’t played nearly the amount of games the teams at the top of the win percentage list have either.
October 28th, 2019 at 1:20 PM ^
ND sure was playing that stat up a few years back.
October 28th, 2019 at 12:46 AM ^
It's a stat - simple as that. And it's not like it hasn't been brought up before on this site. I guarantee that tPOSu fucks made a big deal of it earlier this year when BSU overtook M on that stat, and I'm sure they were well aware of the stat I just brought up and would have stomped it in our faces if the outcome were different on Sat. There are 9 teams that are the tops in stats for Wins and Win%. I do not consider BSU among those (and wont unless 40 years from now they are still in that realm). Those 9 teams are tops in pretty much every statistical category. The outlier is there is no Florida team among them. The Florida teams have earned a place in the elites for the last half century but you can't just combine them. Two of them were non-existent for most of history.

I mean.... they do play on a smurf blue field.....

Honest answer to honest question since it ties in with another thread regarding Notre Shame records. I have always touted our wins as superior to all other programs. I don't care what the fuck people say. We have been a (the) top program basically since we started playing the game. Years ago when Michigan was the winningest program by wins but ND had the highest Win% and it was a matter of beating them to get that title too.....fuk yeah I was hungry as fuk for that. Once we got it we never looked back at those chumps. I would say they are pretty equal considering the amount of games and history. But winning more games is a better stat. I bet there is a school out there who played one season and went 9-1 and never played again. That shit doesn't count.
October 28th, 2019 at 6:16 AM ^
Put simply, why wouldn't we want both?
Yes, "winningest" can often be interpreted as one would prefer. Technically Webster's says it's "the one with the most wins." Regardless, is there any reason we wouldn't want the top % as well?
October 28th, 2019 at 12:13 PM ^
One reason Michigan people paid attention to it for a while was that ND fans would bring it up when they had taken the lead. For most of my adult lifetime Michigan and ND have been the top two and have jockeyed back and forth.
Apparently ND is now at best 4th? OP do you have the top 10 you can post?
October 28th, 2019 at 2:09 PM ^
Gave you the top 3 and you can see how close that is (I don't really count BSU as a top 10 all time so here's the next (9):
4. Bama .727
5. ND .726
6. OU .725
7. Texas .705
8 USC .698
9. Nebraska .691
10. PSU .690
11. FSU .674
12. Tenn .673
Threw Tennessee in there because FSU football program didn't start until 1947.
Boise St. program started in 1968.

Extra (decimal) point for emphasis.
October 28th, 2019 at 12:22 AM ^
Seems like a weird thing to chest pound about since if it’s that close there is a very good chance we lose it this year anyways
October 28th, 2019 at 12:55 AM ^
Sorry - dunno how to edit OPs or if its possible but tPOSu % should be .72899
October 28th, 2019 at 1:46 AM ^
BSU joined the Big West Conference in 1996 and moved up to Division I-A (now FBS).
Since they became a DI school Boise State has a record of 232-56
.805 WIN PCT
So Michigan ,Ohio St arent even close in the "All Time win pct race"
October 28th, 2019 at 1:55 AM ^
Referring to them as tPOSu & Notre Shame makes you sound like you're stuck in middle school.

Smoke some Toledo Window Box and chill George.

More like "Chunneler."
October 28th, 2019 at 8:56 AM ^
Yeah I did some copyediting because a thread to talk about the W% is enjoyable to some, but we make fun of other sites for stooping to unoriginal nicknames for other schools, and the bad English was already making it hard to understand what he was trying to say.
October 28th, 2019 at 5:32 AM ^
Good post, but it's NOT tPOSu. It is just ordinary aPOSu.

I had no idea OSU had gotten that close in win percentage. That's annoying. Obviously, their winning at a 90% clip this decade has something to do with it, but our own struggles have cost us a lot of our cushion.
In an alternate timeline, Lloyd Carr hires Jim Harbaugh as his QB coach instead of Scot Loeffler, and grooms Jim to be his successor, leading to a smooth transition after 2007...
October 28th, 2019 at 8:00 AM ^
Fortunately they have 12 wins that don't count from 2010.
October 28th, 2019 at 8:03 AM ^
I choose to identify with this. In fact, Michigan has yet to lose a game. Pretty great.
October 28th, 2019 at 8:49 AM ^
If you take the last 50 years OSU has the highest winning percentage by far. Michigan is somewhere around 5, Boise State is 7.
October 28th, 2019 at 10:22 AM ^
1) It's an all-time percentage, not a "last 50 years" percentage
2) Their edge over those last 50 years is almost entirely due to the 2008-present era.
October 28th, 2019 at 2:30 PM ^
If you look at the wins OSU has racked up for the better part of 2 decades it's really depressing.
2011 the Fickel year they were 6-7
2004 they were 8-4
If you back to their Natty year 2002 (14-0) - 17 years - other than those two mentioned, they have won 10 games twice. 11 games 4x. 12 games 5x. + a 13 win season and another 14 win season (and Natty). And that is discounting the 12 win (vacated) season.
If you don't take away those 12 wins they have won more in those 17 years than anyone. Amazingly the next team in that span is:
Boise St. 189 wins
Oklahoma 183 wins
OSU 179 (191)
October 28th, 2019 at 7:06 AM ^
Does this take into account vacated games due to cheating (read: Tressel tenure)?
October 28th, 2019 at 7:56 AM ^
Boise State?? That's funny.
Statue of Liberty play was cool, but they suck.
October 28th, 2019 at 8:01 AM ^
Silly
October 28th, 2019 at 8:04 AM ^
I'd prefer winning percentage with a minimum number of games played threshold. I mean, that's what they do for baseball for batting average in a season. I'd also prefer national titles to either.
Or, put another way, do prefer being Miami, OH (644 wins) or Miami, Florida (622 wins).
Alabama is also charging hard. Fortunately they have 29 wins vacated.
October 28th, 2019 at 12:15 PM ^
Another stat that is blown way out of proportion.
October 28th, 2019 at 3:56 PM ^
does any other fan base care about stupid shit like this ? other then Michigan ?I fail to understand the appeal of all those ancient wins .
