Hockey tourney results
Surprised there isn't a thread specific to this...
Last night's NCAAM Hockey results, with one shocker I'm so sad to see. NOT.
Boston U 5, Western Michigan 1 ... Not a surprise? Maybe the MOV is.
St Cloud St. 4, Minnesota St. 0 ... I have no thoughts on this one, except that I always thought "St. Cloud St." sounds like it's the public university of Lando's city in "Empire Strikes Back."
Minnie 9, Canisius 2 ... Not a surprise result but, like, 9?!?!?
Cornell 2, Denver 0 ... AND DOWN GO THE BAD GUYS(*). Soup Nazi says, No repeat for you!
(*) I just can't get over last year I guess... maybe tonight and the 2023 Frozen Four will help.

Doesn't make last year hurt less... but it helps a tiny bit!

Very happy to see Denver go down. We've proven we can beat Minnesota so even though technically Minnesota is better than Denver, I prefer to see Denver lose.
Now let's just hope Michigan finds a way to win a few more games this year....maybe 4?

The Minnesota game was competitive through two periods, really. You could tell Minn was better, but Canisius was playing with excellent effort and snuck a couple goals in. It was 3-2 going into the 3rd...and then Canisius took a 5 minute major. And then got their faces caved in.

Yeah, BryMac had a tweet I saw that said Minnesota was having trouble adapting to Canisius's lack of talent and team speed for a while and it did seem like they weren't quite ready for a team that just sort of farted along but played tough. Then the floodgates opened and Minny blew them out.

Thanks, I was going to ask what had happened, since last I saw it was 3-2 at the 2nd intermission. Figured Minny would win, but wasn't expecting six goals in the third...

Minnesota was down 2-1 (I think I the second period), and scored the next eight (8) against Canisius.

Tied the game around the midway point on a junk goal and didn't really start playing well until ~5 left in the second. Picked up one there, Canisius took a dumbfuck charging major (clear as day, had to be called) and that was the game.

Obviously, the game to follow and watch tonight is Colgate vs Michigan. 8:30 pm EDT puck drop - broadcast on ESPN2.
Enjoy…
Coulda sworn it was on ESPNU, but just checked and you’re right, the deuce it is

i make sure to take extra pleasure in Western losing since their fans still haven't stopped bitching about us "ducking games."
Ehhh... M totally ducked that game. But given WMU still got a #1 seed last year it hardly held them back, I don't know why they'd need to cling to it.
... Wait, where are you going that you actually hear from Western hockey fans?

*I'm still mad at Miami of Ohio for the disallowed goal that kept us out of the frozen four in detroit in like...2010? 2009? Whatever. Eff those guys. Both of their presidents AND their SB winning QB were all overrated. Actually I take it back. Taft was all right. But still, they suck

If you look at the tournament preview thread that's on the front page, you'll see a whole subthread where various longtime hockey fans on this board trade accounts of how the Fort Wayne travesty (it was 2010) is one of the most painful losses we've ever experienced, comparing unfavorably with losses by vastly superior teams.

thanks for directing me to shared misery ;)

There were literally dozens of fans who saw the travesty live in Fort Wayne

it was 3-2 after 2 periods, so clearly minny goes thru lulls. hopefully this isnt their wake up call. whatever. F the gophers

I'm glad DU went down... local TV was touting DU would have the most championships if they won this year. Michigan needs to win this one and break the current tie.
They're also referring to Denver as "the 'real' Hockeytown" since the Avs and Pios are defending champs.

I watched both #1 seeds. Cornell was the better team almost all night. Certainly worked harder; did not look meaningfully less skilled. Canisius violated the "don't take a 5 rule" and they paid a heavy price. Were clearly the lesser team, but were within a goal after 2 periods.

I was surprised how non-threatening Denver looked for most of what I caught of their game. It may have had more to do with Cornell's suffocating defense
Canisius was hanging around till that major and then the wheels fell off.
I have no opinion on St Cloud other than that I think they're the Purdue of college hockey when it comes to the tournament. I think I count 16 appearances this century and only 2 frozen fours.
