Hey, Other Brian...how does keeping DQ Jones change how we recruit DT's in the closing stretch?

In your opinion, now that he is back in the fold, does M cool on it's recruitment of say a Bennie Logan?

Well Logan's a DE, and he got his LSU offer, so that one's over and done with. DQJ and Graves are really the only DTs left on the board. If they bolt, there's nobody else out there. Also, there seems to be some misunderstanding regarding Jones. Seems like people are believing that he came out and said definitively, Michigan is his school. He didn't say that. He said he'd "probably" sign with Michigan and that he'll decide on Signing Day. He also said that before he visited, he "wasn't really interested" in UM. It is NOT a slam dunk that he's Blue now.

this makes me sorta restless. I know we have a lot of fillers on the squad. Guys that can go from one position to another, projects, if you will. We really haven't gotten one real solid LB out of this class and we've gotten one solid "commit" at DT. I wonder if this concerns anyone else. *waits for someone to talk me down*

Couple of the safeties(jones, bell) may make the transition and Hawthorne is going 2 be something a little different than Michigan is use 2, he gives them someone that can go sideline 2 sideline. Awesome speed at the linebacker position but it's going 2 take him a (red-shirt)(2 put on weight) couple of years. But your right they will go after more in 2010, you have 2 recruit in wave's or you'll run the risk of losing your hole off. or def. in 1 year. GOTTA HAVE BALANCED REC. APPROCH

I agree that we neither have a superstar LB on the field, bench, or recruiting class. LB was a huge weakness for us this yr, and i dont think we did much of anything to mend out problems, now or future. We did lose our worst starting linebacker, in Thompson, but the fact that he did start says a lot about the talent behind him. We havent seen much of fitzgerald, demens, marrell, or any of his backups, so im not sure how confident i am in our LB core moving forward. Mouton did seem to make some progress as the season went on, but hes still a liability in the passing game. As is obi ezeh, who in my opinion had a very disappointing season, despite getting a lot of tackles, after a promising freshman yr. I do like the idea of having faster, smaller OLBs (converted safeties) to better cover the spread. But I expect growing pains, as added pressure will be on the LBs with a very young Dline in front of them. Although I do have to point out for the record, Mouton was a convertd safety, rated much higher as such than jones or bell, and that worked out kinda meh. Its a big change for a lot of safeties that are more used to playing the ball in front of them or in deep patterns, than trying to break up slant routes while simultaneously paying close attention to the run. The big question is whether they can add the weight and maintain their speed.

Mouton might still be a star. He was only a redshirt sophomore last year. Ezeh could be solid. He was also only a redshirt sophomore. And I'm judging mostly from high school film, but Fitzgerald could be a star if he's used correctly. I would not be surprised to see him log 100 tackles in a season before he graduates.

I agree, I think all three of our starting linebackers this year have star potential (assuming they are Mouton, Ezeh and Fitz). All three of these guys will spend 3 years as starters, which not only helps them become big time players, it will give us time to recruit and develop the guys who will be taking their spots. I don't think we're as bad at LB as a lot of people think.
