Ozzie Smith.  Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time.  Long time.

(Except for a few weeks ago since the wife & I started binge watching Simpsons from the beginning.  Other than that, a long time.)

Michigan 1-0 thanks to an error by the SS tossing to 2nd base. That's already the 2nd time the SS and 2B of Cal have screwed up

Cal Poly pitcher already at 25+ pitches in the 1st inning

The link is working for me, but I'm in Brittany on a French server.

Much appreciate the links, as this is the only way to connect to UM sports from this neck of the woods.

Here's a link to Live Stats from the Cal Poly site.  MGoBlue's site link not working, as happens quite often on the official M Go Blue site.

Nope, not today.  Michigan has a lot of outfield depth, enough that I'm not necessarily sure how he works his way into the regular lineup this season, especially since he's going to miss a month and a half with spring football practice.

With Bullock, Clementi, Franklin and probably Nwogu gone after this season, he has a real shot at starting next year.

Can somebody help me understand why we are playing two games today? Seems like a challenge to schedule 4 games in 3 days right of the bat this season.

How big is the college baseball roster? Do we expect most position players to play both games or do we have enough bodies to rotate?

College baseball usually play  Wed (mid week)   then Fri-Sat-Sun and you will see a few double headers, based on weather

The rosters have between 35-40 players.i think Michigan has 39 ..We have a ton of pitching,so 4 games in 3 days seems ok

One bright spot .. Michigan has two guys injured that are very close to returning their Closer Willie Weiss  who will be a MLB in a couple years

and Jesse Franklin   whos already been drafted 3 times (high school,Fresh,Soph)   hes was Freshman All American and will probably bat 3rd in the order when he gets back

It's a challenge, but only given the strength of the opponents.  It's pretty normal to schedule 4 games the first weekend of the season, but Michigan always preferred a cupcake opponent in Florida.  Michigan is going for a top 16 seed this year so they are skipping many of the usual February cupcakes in favor of some RPI top quadrant games.

Four games a week isn't all that hard on anybody other than the pitching staff.  We probably see Jimmy Obertop catching the second game, and Donovan at DH, because it's hard to catch 18 innings in a day, but the rest of the lineup shouldn't change much other than for platoon purposes.

The strange thing about the extra game today is that it's in a different stadium about 20 minutes away by car/bus, so Michigan will have 2 hours or less in which to make the 20-minute drive from Scottsdale to Tempe.

Got away with the win, 8-5.  Cal Poly loaded the bases in the bottom of the 9th, but some typically great defense from Blomgren at shortstop gets the last 2 outs to preserve the win.

Now it's on the bus for the drive to ASU.  That game will start a little late, I would think.

This is a really stupid question because I haven't followed Michigan baseball since before last season's run.  How the F does Michigan play home games in February and March?  Weather is not optimal, obviously.  Just grin and bare the 30F or less temperatures and occasional snow?
