6’4 215lb QB out of NY. Seems to be a decent but not great QB. FWIW, Magnus from TTB thinks he’s a good athlete and could potentially end up going the Zach Gentry route to TE. At the very least it gives us another option at QB if the very worst happens. He may end up being a career backup but still rooting for him in whatever role he ends up playing at Michigan!

I get the competition level arguments, but after watching his tape I have no idea how he hasn't been more highly recruited.  Hes's a natural beast of a runner with a cannon for an arm and what appears to be decent touch.   Looks like a poor man's Dak Prescott to me.   Not sure what teams like BC are doing recruiting wise in the New England  but keep it up because the Northeast is providing some nice depth to our classes.

Looking forward to TTB's rating because he looks like a white Joe Milton in the exactly 1min49sec of film I watched. Excited to have him on scout team next fall and hope he can contribute after that.

That would assume McCaffrey wins the battle. If Milton wins, I certainly don’t expect McCaffrey to stick around. I wouldn’t be shocked if Milton didn’t stick around either though.

At any rate, this commit is at worst an insurance option in case one of them does transfer. Heading into the season with two scholarship QBs would be a disaster.

This year for example, Shea was banged up to start the year, then we had McCaffrey out for a few games with a concussion. In that scenario we had Milton waiting in the wings as a semi-capable backup. If we had two scholarship QBs, we would have been looking at a banged up Shea and a walk-on backup. Let’s just call that... less than ideal.

Yay!  I like this kid.  He,s a qb version of Sainristil.  Basically, a guy whose film you look at and wonder how in the world is he not rated pretty highly.

One of the least surprising commits today, based on his options.  As the fallback to CJ Stroud, his other option was UMass.  Someone earlier said he was like a more mobile Wilton Speight.  If that's accurate, He won't be too bad as a backup option in the QB room.  Wilton, for his lack of 'crootin acclaim, turned out to be a pretty good starter for us in 2016.  Its unfortunate that he got his neck broken against Purdue on a shitty late hit.

If we need Dan to play in competitive portions of games, being an on-field doppleganger for Wilt won't be bad...

Well I like the class but then I look at oSU’s signees and realize they have two 4star QBs rated within the top 250.  I’m almost surprised Michigan didn’t kick the tires On Martinez or Rompf at QB as both have secondary positions if there isn’t a direct line to playing time.  Better hope that Milton bides his time and develops instead of transferring and JJ is the real deal.

Long Island football is way under scouted, in fact the whole Northeast is virtually ignored by the national recruiting sites.  Hence his offers from regional colleges.

Paye, Uche, McKeon have all way out-performed their 3-star rankings, so maybe Danny V can some day light up that scoreboard.  Go Blue !!!

Scouts aren’t riding on horseback to watched these kids play.  All the elite QBs travel for camps and Elite 11 type events.  Plus they have actual film of kids playing football nowadays. To say the NE is ignored  is simply not true.

That might be the case, but you’re not factoring in the scarcity of resources (time) that scouts have in watching these tapes.

There are 16,000 high school teams in America. Each of these teams has 22 starters. An average high school highlight tape is 8-12 minutes.

If every high school starter makes a highlight tape (and most do), then that means there’s between 5.37 and 8.34 YEARS worth of high school football highlight tapes per season that would need to be watched to scout every varsity football player in America.

Theres just no conceivable way to do this, so the recruiting services are reliant on prospects attending their summer camps. Unfortunately, judging a prospect  at a 3-day summer camp versus what they do in 4-5 months of high school football leaves margin of error.

More significant is the thousands of prospects who don’t (or can’t) attend one of those camps. When there’s 5.37-8.34 years (or 46,933.33 to 70,400 hours) worth of highlights tapes to watch per high school football season, there’s a very high likelihood of talented players who don’t attempt summer camps slipping through the cracks.

Pretty hard to get a high level QB in just a months time. Just unfortunate and sad news regarding JD Johnson.

1 QB is better than no QB in the class no matter their recruiting website ranking. We need the added safety net at that position.

Congrats to Dan. He was slated to go to UMass before Michigan came calling. That's a hell of an upgrade.

Mac Jones, the qb we will face in the Citrus was 399th in the nation. Jack Coan from Wisconsin was in the 400's and Sean Clifford from Penn St was 196th. I know Taylor is who beat us but Coan was 13/16 in the game. Clifford was 14/25 with 3 td's. Dont yet know how Mac will play against us but my point is that these guys are good qb's that weren't highly ranked playing for successful teams. This kid appears to have good film and could always play tight end down the road if qb doesnt work out. I'm good with this.

How about Ian Book in the high 500's, Justin Herbert in the high 600's, Charlie Brewer in the 800's and Kyle Trask at 2399. Less laughable?

I'm not arguing this kid is gonna bring us a national title but neither did the number 1 qb in the 2016 class. He at least provides depth and positional variability
