Hello: Blade Jenkins - 2018 Hockey
Michigan hockey received its first commitment born in 2000 when Forward Blade Jenkins announced he would attend UM. He is 14 years old and the son of current Compuware coach Todd Jenkins.
Blade is currently 5'10" and weighs 155 lbs.
I now feel so old.

Compuware is the sponsor and title of one of the big junior teams in Detroit. You'll also hear Honeybaked, Belle Tire, Little Caesars, etc.

It's AAA (junior is different) and some people call them the "big 5.' The only one you missed is Victory Honda.

This is all news to me. Is it fair to think of this stuff like AAU ball in basketball? Or are there big differences?

It's not the easiest comparison because the sports are structured very differently.
If you're asking whether Compuware is a top level club team, then yes it's like an AAU team. Jenkins team (Compuware Midget Minor U15) is ranked number one in the nation right now for its age classification.
Unlike AAU basketball, AAA hockey would replace playing high school hockey (by rule in the Central district, Michigan is its own district and I don't know it as well). The seasons run concurrently and they're different levels of competition.
