Heartwarming story for MLK Jr. Day: Jesse Owens and Gerald Ford

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

Saw this posted on Facebook. Fascinating story about Gerald Ford presenting the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Jesse Owens. It includes the fact that Ford (a graduating senior) was at Ferry Field that day in May 1935 when Owens set four world records.

Note "Ohio" on the the jersey of "The OSU" — aka "tOSU." Hoke wasn't mocking when he called them "Ohio," he was respecting what they call themselves.

gave Jesse Owens the Presidential Medal of Freedom.  Mr. Owens certainly deserved it.  Can't say it completely righted a wrong, but it is a great, heartwarming story.  Thanks !

Great story. I wish football fans were not ruthless to each other and we could focus on the football and realize the more important things in life are just that, more important.

When I'm back home part of my routine is to run, at least once during my stay, down Main and up the hill, and around the stadium and then back up State until I to Schembechler Hall and then to the Ferry Field track, where I run laps and pause briefly to pay homage to Owens. What of the plans to turn the place into a parking lot? Did they go the way of Brandon? Glad it hasn't transpired.
