Harbaugh going for 2

Submitted by MichMike86 on
I have looked back and haven't found anything regarding this so I suppose I will post. What was the deal w/ Stanford going for 2 after they were up 48-21? I have heard something along the lines of him quoting Woody. Thoughts?

I'd guess he wanted the even half-century on USC - who among us here would not? Harbaugh is maybe not such a nice guy, but he seems to be pretty good football coach. Very impressive shellacking of the Trojans.

I like it. I think it is better to stick it to a team through play rather than his mouth (Kiffin). Plus someone needed to stick it to USC for once. Its even more awesome because he picked on someone his own size, its not like he did this to Cal Poly.

...when you attack [USC] with enthusiasm unknown to mankind. Good for Harbaugh and for Stanford, and I hope they keep it up in 2 weeks time. Seriously, Stanford is to Notre Dame what a Patek Phillipe is to a Seiko.

come back to bite him in the ass in the future because once USC is better(not that they're bad or mediocre but relative to what they have done for the past few years), I'd expect Carroll to show no mercy on Harbaugh and Stanford.

Cowherd talked about this today. He has inside sources at Stanford that say Harbaugh hates Carroll with passion. Apparently, Carroll trashes Harbaugh on the recruiting circuit and tells kids, "why would you want to go there? We kill them every year". Apparently, Harbaugh was making a point to Carroll. p.s. don't go negbanging me because I listen to Cowherd.

I'd call it a dick move normally; against USC it's somewhat justified, but considering Stanford beat USC two years ago it's not really worth rubbing it in. Besides, that's what OSU did. I personally would like to see a Michigan upset on Saturday capped by Michigan lining up for the two point conversion, then taking a knee to show that we're better than them. There's a lot that's unlikely about that scenario however.

Some of the talking heads at ESPN radio in so cal are crying about it calling it a classless move. They even went to say that they didn't care that Harbaugh did that, it just tarnished the win. IME, it did not tarnish the win. How is this situation any different than any other game when USC runs up the score.

First off, Carroll and Harbaugh can't stand each other. Also, this started last year when Harbaugh (down by 28 at the time) kept calling timeouts trying to score a touchdown in garbage time. Pete responded by putting Maualuga and Cushing back in the game and blitzing the Stanford QB. I expect a series of immature "acting like a dick"-moves from both coaches in the years to come. Should be fun to watch.
