Greg Garmon Update

Submitted by UM_lawful on

Browsing twiiter, I came across this from Steve Wiltfong from 247 sports:

The player in the picture is indeed RB Greg Garmon.

His profile with the same picture:

Says UNC is his #1 as we all knew.

It says Iowa and Illinois round out his top 3, where previously it was Penn State and (I believe) us.

His interest still lists us as "Warm" on 247, whereas PSU has dropped to "Cool."

Not sure if this is a case of other schools pushing hard or if Michigan is focusing mostly elsewhere (Dunn, other positions).

When a player lists schools like Iowa and Illinois in their top 5 instead of us, when there's no real connection to either of those schools, it's usually because we cooled on him.  Not always, but usually.

that Illinois and Iowa would jump over us.  I was wondering what was going on with him.  I find this a little odd.  I still say Michigan needs to go after Rushel Shell with all they have.  That kid is a stud from the Pittsburgh area.

At this point I would guess that the only RB we have a good shot at is Dunn because at least he has visited. Marshall has us in his top 10 and if he uses one of his officials we may have a shot but consensus is that he stays in the South. The Good Counsel crew doesn't seem all that interested in us at this point either. So I say Dunn or no one. Take an extra O lineman or D lineman with the scholarship.

I'm with you. I think we have quite reasonable depth at RB, enough so that we can ride it out if we don't take one. Given the way our recruiting is going, we only need to look at blue chippers, not get desperate. I think that our RBs are much better than advertised, but RichRod just didn't really do much to establish a power running game. I expect that Hopkins, Toussaint, and Rawls are going to open eyes in the fall.

I'd like to nab at least one...there are a few second tier guys that I wouldn't mind spending a scholarship on.

Of course, we're the leaders for '13 RB/DB Dymonte Thomas, easily one of the best players in the midwest for next year. He already holds 7 offers, including UCLA, Tennessee, and Pitt, to show the national attention he's receiving.

Kid is an absolute beast and the fact that Ohio is throwing out 2013 offers to kids that I feel are not even as good as this kid more than likely are going to help push him to us.  Nothing like a kid that feels disrespected and comes in with a huge chip on his shoulder.

He listed a top 5 of UNC, WV, Iowa, Illinois, and Michigan.  He already visited UNC and WVU and said he will take all 5 visits

"I like Iowa because of what they are offering and what they did with Erie kids that went there," said Garmon. "With Illinois, my family is from down there and Coach Smith and I are really close. And with Michigan, I talk to the coaches almost everyday and they are talking about early playing time, so I really like that. We are starting to build a strong relationship."

We were in the hunt for I'Tavius early.  No news since then, while ND and the SEC seem to have made in roads.  I would love to get a Top Tier RB in this class.  But if we can't land one this year, better we spend our scholarships elsewhere and look to 2013 (IMO).
