I hope it works out well for him.  Interesting baseball stats, though.  Not the type of stats you’d think would earn a DI scholarship for baseball.  Wonder if he was playing injured last year or if there’s more to it.

These days stats aren’t nearly as important as they used to be. College recruiters look more at measurables like ball exit velocity off the bat, bat speed, arm strength (mph off the mound and from the field), running speed to first base and around the bases, etc. He looks strong as an ox so I bet his measurables are very good.

My bat speed in Little League was excellent, but I didn't make contact with the ball very often.

A .239 batting average in high school doesn't suggest Division 1 baseball player to me. I'd guess that USF saw something promising from the mound (though his ERA isn't great, either).

.239 barely suggests starter on a bad high school baseball team. especially for a college in Florida, I don't know how he had a scholarship there. it must not have been a full ride because you might as well get the free education and you could just wall onto their football team. He'll, he might actually play someday there.

my wife's friends son in Florida is 6'3 and hit .380 as a hs junior last year and he doesn't have any D1 offers....

Brian Griese is probably the best-known walk-on from Florida.  If he can do even a little of what Griese did, he will be a welcome addition.  Go Blue!
