A general thanks to you guys

Submitted by Brian on
Various posts on Rivals and Scout today: "Way to tough it out McGuffie. Maybe his little fingers were cold?" "I've never been more excited for senior day goodbye and good riddance." "My biggest fear for this program has come to pass the lowering of the bar by the administration and fan base." These aren't all or most of the posts, but they are there. They are not here. So, thanks.

What were the post count on those statments by the poster? I personally don't put much faith in post counts but I've foundn't over the years that most stupid posts are from those who don't post until something upsets them....namely Michigan losing or the PUI (posting under influence) poster.

This is why my subscription to rivals started last year during recruiting and ended there. It is a cesspool, many of the subscribers there don't give the slightest shit about anyone in the Michigan program. Their only reason for Michigan fandom is to have their ego stroked by success. Any mistake or even rumor of a problem will have them turn on the player or coach in an instant. TBH, it was a useful experience for me to see the crap that these kids go through during recruiting. Brutal for a 16-17 year old, I don't know how they do it!

It is easy to forget that the sentiments posted by Brian have likely always existed for Michigan football, as have the rational and clear headed sentiments generally posted here. The difference is that we have more ways to express them now, with greater speed and greater permanence. In this case, we have Brian speaking to the rational. Are we happy? No. Are we disappointed? Absolutely. Are we seeking rational answers to how things can get better in the future? Yes, and that is why we are here. Others will seek other forums to find what they desire. For those of us here, we have Brian (and several other really strong Michigan blogs which do the same, with Brian as the vanguard.) to help form a community and keep us looking toward the future and hopefully better days ahead. Keep the faith, Go Blue, and remember, even in the darkest days, it's great to be a Michigan Wolverine, because it always is great to be a Michigan Wolverine.

year- Michigan fans have reason to be excited. Coach Rod did what He could with the players he had and they have played hard for most games. Coach Carr should be remembered for for his character and Michigan's win over Florida and forgiven for the "shit storm" He left Michigan's Football Program in. As a Michigan Fan,I would like to thank the seniors and freshmen as this is not the kind of season a player wants to enter or leave a program-trust me we all feel the pain. Michigan will get get on track next year and signs of hope will be there for all Michigan Fans.

I don't bother reading rivals/scout boards, but I really doubt that the dumbasses there get mocked as relentlessly as they do here whenever they happen to pop up. Brian's posts make it easy to refute idiots, and this site is about 10000x more enjoyable without them.

I won't attempt to "defend" the site to you, because I won't succeed, so whatever. It should be taken as seriously as you'd think a Communist-theme Michigan football blog should be taken (read: not very). I do want to respond to me being "the most negative": I don't think we'll suck next year. I really don't. I DO however, have skepticism that a true freshman QB will be riotously successful. Personally, I think Steven Threet will be our QB for much of the year - I think he's established that, when healthy, he can run this offense (see the portion of the Penn State game he played). I also think he will play at a high enough level that we should win 7 games. His largest problem, right now, is a tendency to stare down a Wide Receiver - a problem we've seen John Navarre and Chad Henne mature from. Now, I think that we will see Forcier or Beaver (or both) play next year, but I wouldn't expect it from the start - at all. My skepticism about their success as true freshmen is not a reflection of my opinion of whether they will be successful QB's - I do think one of them will be - I just doubt it will happen next year.

Chitown was talking with the creator of Haloscan and the guy was saying how an effective moderation system was needed. Chitown replied that we have an effective moderating system of scorn, handlejacking, and profanity.

1. I guess you haven't looked at some of the avatars around here, including mine (I'm not a WLA member but am a fellow-traveler). 2. The site has been written up, favorably, by a number of well-known sports media. 3. If you don't get it, well, don't read it.
