Gary Harris to sign by Nov., announces officials
Gary Harris has announced he will make official visits to MSU, Indiana, and Purdue. He can take 5 officials but doesn't know if he'll take the additional 2. Will decide by November.
This is all according to the Indiana 247Sports site:
Please go to Indiana and not MSU.

Purdue... So that way he can decommit and come home to Big Blue!

I hear they've already got a city named after him in Indiana.

Gary Harris is a big-time 2012 basketball recruit from Indianapolis. #16 overall and #4 SG according to ESPN. I thought I would throw it out there since I had to look it up myself.

I thought he was from Fishers and was a teammate of Zak Irvin's?
You would be correct on both accounts. They play together at Hamilton Southeastern High School.

If Michigan doesn't have much of a chance with him, go to Louisville or Indiana Gary, since those are two of the 5 rivals has his interest listed as medium to.

Was Michigan in on this kid at all?

The staff has been recruiting him for a while. We've been trailing the whole time, but you never know. We have about a 1% chance though.

Yes. If he were to add the 2 extra officials, Michigan and Louisville would probably make it. It seems pretty clear who his top 3 are though. Indiana seems full, but teams always find ways to make room for big-time players like Harris.

Harris previously announced a top five, and Michigan wasn't one of them. He's even more of a long shot than Mitch McGary.
In the meantime, here's some news on prospects Michigan has a much better chance of landing, both 2013 point guards:
Derrick Walton Jr.: Sam Webb said on WTKA this morning that MSU is "making a strong push" for Walton and Izzo "wants him to come up and have a meeting in the next few days." Michigan was in early on Walton and was the first to offer him a scholarship, and hopefully Walton will take that into account in comparison to this late interest from MSU. (These late pushes, as Sam pointed out, seem to be Izzo's MO.)
Demetrius Jackson: Kyle Neddenreip of the Indianapolis Star had this note on Jackson:
Demetrius Jackson, Mishawaka Marian (2013): The 6-1 point guard plans to visit Butler and Illinois in August. He has offers from Michigan and Xavier and interest from a number of other high-major programs.

I think many have speculated that Walton was MSU's to lose if they offered. And if they have, I think he'll be committing shortly.

We need to have a strong season in the B1G (hopefully win it) and a deep run in the NCAAs this year so we can start to beat MSU for recruits. I realize we have been doing very well on the recruiting trail lately but it seems all the really big-name kids head to State.

Izzo, it is rumored, pulled the same late swoop tactic on Irvin, but failed. That means his voodoo is no longer as strong as it used to be. He can't rely on his clout to reap what others have sown. I think beating the Spartans twice last year, and Beilein's ability to win with a young team has done the heavy lifting. Obviously, we need continued results, but I don't think the Spartan brand is as dominant as it was.

For what it's worth, I'm one of the many Hoosier fans who is just waiting on him to commit to MSU. Unless IU comes out guns blazing this fall I don't think he commits. Even with the ridiculous 2012 class they have coming in. There are too many reservations about Crean the coach as opposed to Crean the recruiter/manager.

I'm guessing that, thanks to that ridiculous '12 class for IU, losing Harris wouldn't be that big of a loss?
Meh. As much as losing a fringe 5 star can not be a loss I guess. Izzo was on him first though and even though I'm a Hoosier fan I can't begrudge Harris for going to MSU. Until Crean does anything substantial it's foolish to assume anybody in Indiana will line up to play for him.
