Friday night before-big-game beverage/mgoradio open thread
Took a lot of time off from alcohol, but I'm enjoying one every now and again. Tonight it's Griffin Claw screamin-pumpkin ale. Homemade pizza for the family.
I'm shocked to hear on mgoradio that Brian reads our comments. Anything you wish to say to him?
Thoughts on PSU.
General stuff you want to get off your chest.
Cheers

Still at the office here on the west coast. Still drinking coffee and obviously working hard. Would love to see us get out of there with a W tomorrow. Tomorrow is my wife's birthday and we of course have a birthday dinner planned during the game.
October 18th, 2019 at 6:49 PM ^
Taco, isn't it Thursday where you are....?
October 18th, 2019 at 7:47 PM ^
ha ha - I always need to double check what day it is and still get it wrong half the time.
October 18th, 2019 at 7:01 PM ^
First off, thank your mother-in-law for raising such a wonderful woman to be your wife. Then...bribe your mother-in-law to say she got the date wrong and your wife's birthday is actually the 20th.
October 18th, 2019 at 7:48 PM ^
I need to try this.
October 18th, 2019 at 9:06 PM ^
Self inflicted wound. People on the west coast love brunch. Birthday brunch is the deal with bottomless mimosas. By 4:30 she’ll be sated, serviced, and thanking you for getting her home to bed. Watch game. We win. Mama asleep and thinks you gave up an entire football Saturday to spend solely on her. Profit.
October 18th, 2019 at 5:37 PM ^
I Don’t know why but I feel optimistic tomorrow and I am trying my hardest to temper my feelings of optimism....fanatical is all I can say
October 18th, 2019 at 5:39 PM ^
I can't remember the last time people have been so down on a Michigan team. They will jump a hurdle tomorrow.
October 18th, 2019 at 6:44 PM ^
Id love to jump a hurdle. It’s recent historical evidence that says there’s no way that’s happening. It’s not even BPONE, it’s evidence based skepticism.
October 18th, 2019 at 8:26 PM ^
Same.
October 18th, 2019 at 5:38 PM ^
Dude I've had to cut back also, which has made this season a little less tolerable. I had gout and the alcohol doesn't help. Having said that, I will be indulging tomorrow with some close friends while we will Michigan to victory. Gout be damned, Go Blue.
October 18th, 2019 at 5:44 PM ^
I also had gout, among other problems. No fun. Alcohol in excess really doesn't do anything positive.
October 18th, 2019 at 5:56 PM ^
Win, lose or draw, I'll be enjoying the game completely sober tomorrow night. Nothing against drinking (I did it for years), but drinking at my pace could not continue forever!
October 18th, 2019 at 6:06 PM ^

October 18th, 2019 at 6:54 PM ^
I'll drink for us both tomorrow

Couldn’t agree more. Came back from Mexico. You would have thought I turned 21, not 36. Need a 21 day minimum timeout.
did we just start an mgoblog support group!?

I’m currently battling shingles. I’m a normal (I think I’m normal), healthy male and I developed shingles a few days ago. It’s more painful than I thought it would be.
Doc told me it’s called Herpes Zoster. Initially I thought I got it from the weird websites I visit but then he said it’s basically the chickenpox virus I’ve had stored in my body all my life. Close one. Time to clear the internet history.
October 18th, 2019 at 6:43 PM ^
Getting old is a bitch. I've been considering getting the shingles vaccination, but I read it's only like 60% effective. My buddy had it 2 yrs ago, and he had them in the top of his head. It sucked. Get better bud.
October 18th, 2019 at 6:49 PM ^
I mean if I could decrease my odds of getting a horribly painful illness that I know I am susceptible to by 60% with almost no cost to myself I would probably do it.
October 18th, 2019 at 8:35 PM ^
Shingrix is now available as a 2-shot series that is >90% effective. Recommend you get it even if you received Zostavax (the older, less effective vaccine).
October 18th, 2019 at 7:12 PM ^
Wow! Reading down through here...we are a pathetic bunch...and, sad to say, I must add to the misery. I am in concussion protocol from a "little" farm accident. My recovery had better be quick because in 9 days we are flying to Laos and Vietnam for a 3 week vacation/education tour. I think I am going to be okay but in the meantime my activities are going to be very measured.
October 18th, 2019 at 5:42 PM ^
Verlander likely on the mound tonight to wrap up the ALCS.
Edit: Welp, that sucked. JV gives up 4 runs right off the bat. Looks like the Yanks may stay alive.
October 18th, 2019 at 5:46 PM ^
Brian, why can't we win the big ones on the road? Can we have more perspective threads?

French Toast Devil Dog from Roak Brewery

You all should be going to your local high school football games.
EYB, hope you are well. Ask everyone if they are going to make the remaining Michigan home games.
Go blue!
October 18th, 2019 at 8:23 PM ^
Hanging in there! Think I'll be going to the remaining games. I couldn't hold out forever. Plus we've got a friend who works in the booth who told Brandstatter about our little guy's winged helmet and now he wants to get his picture with him. (Yeah that's a humblebrag). So it looks like we'll be tailgating with the blue bloods next week.

My thoughts?
I am going to drink a lot this weekend.
I am going to watch a lot of great rugby this weekend.
I am going to watch Michigan hopefully win a massive road game this weekend.
October 18th, 2019 at 7:37 PM ^
Truth to this. Rugby world cup is now cant miss programming. The matchups this weekend are epic.
October 18th, 2019 at 8:30 PM ^
Rugby is terribly underrated. I had some time to fill last yr so I played with the local team. In my early 40s so not ideal to pick it up as a new sport, but thoroughly enjoyed myself. More people need to give it a go.
October 18th, 2019 at 6:08 PM ^
Drinking redbreast 12 cask strength.
Nabbed a bottle of Elmer T. Lee ? today. Will save it for when we beat osu this year.
October 18th, 2019 at 9:34 PM ^
I have had a $300 bottle of single malt sitting in my liquor cabinet for 3 years waiting for us to “beat OSU” to nibble on a few fingers of it
needless to say it’s lonely
October 19th, 2019 at 1:17 AM ^
Well, if it is any consolation, that scotch was a good buy now that the new tariff on single malts has hit.
Here's hoping you get to crack it open this year.
October 18th, 2019 at 6:08 PM ^
By tomorrow around 11 PM....
October 18th, 2019 at 6:19 PM ^
Looks like Nikka Whisky from the Barrel even though that can't be right.
October 18th, 2019 at 6:09 PM ^
I’m hoping we won’t need a drinking thread after this game
October 18th, 2019 at 6:37 PM ^
Game thread will be a drinking thread trust me
October 18th, 2019 at 6:22 PM ^
Is this going to double as the Friday night game thread?

Enjoying some Traverse City bourbon that has a nice bite
October 18th, 2019 at 7:01 PM ^
+1 for TC bourbon.
Love their Cherry version ?
October 18th, 2019 at 7:05 PM ^
Actually it's called Deer Camp straight bourbon whiskey...rather high octane with a bite I learned to like it...wife bought it for me in TC. ?
October 18th, 2019 at 7:09 PM ^
Good to know. Will look for it next time I'm in the area ?
October 18th, 2019 at 6:58 PM ^
Dang it. We're working on cleaning out the liquor cabinetAnd one glass into the cinnamon whiskey we brought home from Tennessee I already went too hard
October 18th, 2019 at 7:05 PM ^
I'm drinking whole milk
October 18th, 2019 at 7:11 PM ^
Lots of Ohio State fans floating around in Evanston this afternoon. Not a pretty sight. I was wearing a Michigan t-shirt and I was ready to get into it if any of them said anything.
October 18th, 2019 at 8:09 PM ^
Not yet, but will crack open some Buffalo Trace. I have not had it yet so hoping for a pleasant surprise.
October 18th, 2019 at 8:43 PM ^
Buffalo Trace is an exceptional bourbon and one of the best for it's price range. Another one in that category is Eagle Rare.
Cheers!!!! ?
October 18th, 2019 at 9:30 PM ^
I’ll check that out. Glad I picked up BT, it’s just right ?
October 18th, 2019 at 8:46 PM ^
You’ll enjoy it.
October 18th, 2019 at 8:14 PM ^
Todd the axeman by surly and watching some tv before my sons first birthday manana. Hoping UM has something good for us tomorrow night. Cheers.

Keweenaw Brewing Company Level 92 Black IPA
In line with the older gentlemen at the start of the thread, I am looking forward to a colonoscopy on Monday.
I get BPONE but damn if Michigan just makes those adjustments we have been suggesting then Michigan wins by 17. IF Gattis and Warinner come together with an asymmetric synchronized plan then we will all be smiling before we call it a night.
PSU has 3 freshmen and 3 sophomores on offense. I will be looking to see if Don Brown calls for a few trap plays and if they don't lead to Michigan points.
