Fitz staying at NU

Per @chengelis, Joe schad's Joe schad reports that Pat Fitzgerald is staying at NU.

Resume panicking as normal. I guess a lot of folks didn't want him anyway but, fwiw.

Probably not.  I don't think we want Gruden.  I don't think we want Dungy, and I doubt he wants to coach.  I do think that Urban Meyer is a very realistic possibility if Harbaugh doesn't pan out.  That boat has still not sailed.  Brian is far too negative about all of this.

Harbaugh was offered less by the Niners than by Stanford.  Unless he's tied into the Bay Area, then he isn't staying at Stanford and isn't going to the Niners.  Michigan can offer more, and will offer more than Stanford.  Harbaugh has always wanted to come here.

So the question is whether Stephen Ross (whom a building here is named after) is playing a role in getting Harbaugh to Michigan, or really wants to hire him at Miami.  It's certainly not outside the realm of reason that Stephen Ross is helping Dave Brandon measure what it's going to take to get Harbaugh here.

It would be quite a positive story for Michigan and Harbaugh to be able to say that Jim had huge offers from the NFL, but wanted to come home to Michigan and coach the Wolverines.  This may be done by the beginning of next week.

Let's say its not -- why not Urban Meyer?  He had an out in his contract for us.  He's from and coached in the midwest.  He's a CEO style coach Brandon is looking for.  He has had solid defenses.  He would likely bring some Michigan Men with him (Loeffler and Heater) who know the Michigan tradition.  I'm telling you all right now, that this is not out of the question.

Why all the negativity?  Brandon knows what he's doing.

obviously things can change, but he retired from a job where he had one of the best QBs in the modern era running the offense for him; he made it clear that family time was important to him, so he wasn't working the insane hours most coaches seem to, and even with all that in place, he retired to spend more time with his family.

So now he gets paid to go to a studio and talk about other people's coaching decisions. Of all the ex-coaches currently working in television, he's the last I'd suspect would come out of retirement, and if he did, it would probably be to a job that had a little less pressure or a slightly higher chance of immediate success.

I can't believe all of you  haven't seen through it. DB knows that JH comes with a bit of baggage. He is going to let us go through the lists amongst ourselves until we admit, grudgingly or not, depending upon ones position, that JH is the only logical choice. Diabolical.

Did anyone notice JH out on the field with his injured players? Not the cursory, is his leg broken, do I need to get someone else ready look, but on a knee next to the player.

Nobody should be panicked over PF not coming here, because the notion he would leave his alma mater to coach for a conference team he's spent his last 10-15 years hating was ridiculous from the beginning.
