FF Paths and Stats
I thought I'd put together some statistics on the 4 teams left and their road to the final four through their tournament run. First look is at who has played who. This table shows What seeds each team has had to play and also their opponents Kenpom ranking
Seed | KENPOM | |||||||||
Rd 1 | Rd 2 | Rd 3 | Rd 4 | Ave | Rd 1 | Rd 2 | Rd 3 | Rd 4 | Ave
Michigan | 13 | 5 | 1 | 3 | 5.5 | 103 | 16 | 10 | 2 | 32.75 |
Syracuse | 13 | 12 | 1 | 3 | 7.25 | 158 | 56 | 3 | 26 | 60.75 |
Lousiville | 16 | 8 | 12 | 2 | 9.5 | 221 | 30 | 27 | 7 | 71.25 |
Wich St | 8 | 1 | 13 | 2 | 6 | 11 | 4 | 52 | 6 | 18.25 |
With regards to roughest road, Michigan has had to go against the highest seed, with Wich St close behind. KENPOM has Wich St's road as the toughest by far, with 3 top 15 opponents and the 4th as a close top 50. Michigan's has been statistically challenging as well, having to beat 3 top 20 opponents. Syracuse and Louisville have suprisingly similar KENPOM opponent strengths. All 4 teams have had to at least beat a team in the top ten.
Next I looked at how each team was beating their opponents.
Offense Pts | Defense Pts | Pts Differential
Rd 1 | Rd 2 | Rd 3 | Rd 4 | Ave | Rd 1 | Rd 2 | Rd 3 | Rd 4 | Ave | Rd 1 | Rd 2 | Rd 3 | Rd 4 | Ave
Michigan | 71 | 78 | 87 | 79 | 78.75 | 56 | 53 | 85 | 59 | 63.25 | 15 | 25 | 2 | 20 | 15.5 |
Syracuse | 81 | 66 | 61 | 55 | 65.75 | 34 | 60 | 50 | 39 | 45.75 | 47 | 6 | 11 | 16 | 20 |
Lousiville | 79 | 82 | 77 | 85 | 80.75 | 48 | 56 | 69 | 63 | 59 | 31 | 26 | 8 | 22 | 21.75 |
Wich St | 73 | 76 | 72 | 70 | 72.75 | 55 | 70 | 58 | 66 | 62.25 | 18 | 6 | 14 | 4 | 10.5 |
Louisville has been able to average the most against their opponents, with Michigan close in tow, while Syracuse's per game scoring is a ways off. On the defensive side, Syracuse displays its winning ways with a staggering 46 pts/ game allowed, or just over a pt per minute. Michigan has allowed the highest amount of per game pts, although, only 4 pts per game separates Michigan, Louisville, and Wich St. (note: with over time taken out, Michigan's points per game made vs allowed are 76 and 61)
Finally, in points differential, Louisville has shown dominance over their competition by beating opponets by an average of over 21 pts per game with the closest game being an 8 point win. Syracuse is close behind by averaging an impressive 20 pt differential with their closest win by 6. Michigan and Wich St have shown to be impressive as well by both averaging double digit point wins of 15 and 10 points respectiviely, with Michigan winning by the closest margin of 2 points.

So what does this all mean? Considering the margin of victories and the strength of competition, each team has easily proven their worth in the tournament. No team has been able to separate themselves, as all four have been excellent thus far. Should be a great weekend of basketball. Go blue!
(I welcome anyone elses stats as well, or someone to use these stats in a more in depth analysis with offensive efficiency and defensive efficiency considered)
Florida was a 3 seed.
Updated.
I hate when points in an overtime game are counted like it was a regular 40 minute game and that many points were scored. Should be multiplied by 8/9 (40/45) to get a more accurate representation of the defensive and offensive efforts.
I think this is generally why a points-per-possesion metric is used by most everybody, and why we have all those tempo free stats.
Where do you go to get number of possesions stats? I can add pts/ possesion in additional tables, just need the data. Thanks.

Michigan Scores 76 pts per game and allows 61 pts per game. Again, very competetive defensive and offensive numbers, especially considering the level of competition.
Michigan played a 16th, 10th, and 2nd ranked teams from KenPom (Florida was #1 but still). They had a tough road to get to the sweet 16. They blew out 16th and 2nd ranked teams says a lot about Michigan.
