I was at the game on saturday in sect. 18. A guy was aobut 7 or 8 rows down and was standing up, trying to get others around him to stand and cheer as well. Soon after an usher came down and asked him to sit down and be quiet. I and several others began to insist that the usher look around since the entire section adjascent to us was all on their feet. The usher gave up and went up but a few minutes later came back with the police. The heckling continued as I asked if they wanted us to use a golf clap. Upon talking to this guy it was his first time in the Big House and I hope it will not be his last. The guy was litterally doing nothing but pumping up the crowd and appearantly one of the "down in front" A&^-holes did not like it. I told him to check this blogsite and I would put something in on it so he could read it and get some more feedback. I trust that this board of UM fans will not let him down. I told him he did nothing wrong and that some people are just ridiculous. Maybe he will read this and be encouraged by this board.

guy kept telling me to sit down. I said, "are you fucking kidding me?" Usher came down, told me to sit down in a more polite way. I said, "are you kidding me?" (politeness merits politeness). He just looked at me and I stared at him in disbelief until after about 15 seconds two guys in their 40s or 50s who were sitting down GOT INTO A FULL FIST FIGHT. I have never seen people my father's age in a fist fight and frankly it is just pathetic. Anyway, the usher rushed off to deal with that and I remained standing.

I agree with everything being said here. I want people to stand, get loud and get into the game. A number of years ago I had a ticket in the student section. I have been in that section a few times and like the experience a lot. At this particular game I was probably in row 60. Anyway there was a guy and his day who had tickets right behind me. The guy was probably 50 and his dad probably 80. They said something to me about not standing. I simply pointed to the 59 rows of students standing in front of me and said they would have to get all those people to sit down also so I could still see. I was not rude, I also pointed out that this was the student section and they all stand. They didn't say anything to me after that but I don't think they were happy. If you are going to be like that, don't come to the game! Buy an HD TV and sit at home. I also sit in section 18 and it always seems like there are extra people trying to sit in this section. Once it gets close to game time and more people arrive, sometimes extra people leave the section or realize they are in the wrong seat or row. Does this happen in other sections? (besides the student section) I don't understand why it is so hard to find the correct row, yet people in our section have to move all the time because they are in the wrong row. That being said, I love going to games and feel very lucky that my family has season tickets.

I was in Ann Arbor for UM Law School's 150th Anniversary Celebration, which happened to coincide with the ND game. I wasn't lucky enough to score tickets for my wife and me, but the Law School held a tailgate party in the Law Quad with big screen TV's, food and drinks. It was really cool. Spent the second half of the game with a great guy from FL who was there for his 50th reunion. There were also alums there for their 55th and 60th reunions (I'm class of '87, btw). Anyway, Forcier throws the TD to Mathews and the two of us go nuts right in front of one of the TV's. A couple of the people sitting at the table behind us (class of '54 or '49, I suspect) -- and whose view we were blocking -- yell "Down in front." We whirl on them, only to see they are kidding. It was pretty damn funny after all the years of hearing that from people who actually meant it.

..because being an asshole is timeless. I have no problem standing at games; if I ever do, I'll stay home. I can't figure out why anyone of any age would go to a game and not want to get excited enough to actually get off of their ass. Worse yet, though, is the usher who was stupid enough to agree with him. Maybe they should require ushers to take IQ tests before allowing them to work. Then, they might even go as far as to fucking educate the ushers on fans' rights. Hopefully, the ushers eventually become intelligent enough to tell anyone who whines about people standing that they can either buy one of those nice expensive boxes where everyone sits, or watch the game on TV and let someone who is a real football fan use their ticket.

I'm in Section 34 right in the middle of the endzone. I feel bad for those who have had these problems, I never have. I stand when those in front of me stand. I've had the seats since the early 80s. I've noticed in recent years we stand more. It's much different than twenty years ago. For WMU, I was a guest on the 40 yard line under the press box. We actually stood a good part of the time there too.
