Events in Ann Arbor/NYC for The Hot Seat (MGoConnected book)

Hi folks! Longtime member and sometime contributor Ben Mathis-Lilley here. There's hopefully going to be a lil' more in the main feed about this over the next week, but wanted everyone to know that my book The Hot Seat—which is largely about 2021 Michigan and Jim Harbaugh—comes out next week, on Aug. 30. (If you don't recall, it was previewed in a series of MGoPosts last season. It's basically a season-long effort to figure out—using, like, history and sociology and stuff—why so many of us are the way we are, when it comes to college football. Here's the post I wrote after OSU and Iowa.) You can currently pre-order it anywhere books are sold, which I highly encourage you to do, for my selfish interests, such as finally being able to buy furniture for the office room in our house where I was, ironically, supposed to write the book.

I also wanted to alert everyone that I'm going to do a reading and Q&A with Austin Meek of The Athletic at Literati in AA on publication day—next Tuesday—at 6:30 p.m. And, as a bonus, I'm going to do a similar event in Brooklyn on Sept. 13 with New York Times staffer and UM superfan Jane Coaston. That one will be at one of my old haunts/game-viewing locations, Dram Shop in Park Slope. Please register at the link for that one if you're interested. (It's free, and I can 99 percent guarantee that there will be an open bar of at least some duration. Jane and I are in the process of trying to figure out how to recreate the Mazi Smith plyo stairs test at a book reading without anyone breaking their legs.)

Okay, thanks! And since this is a discussion forum, here's a topic for conversation: Who do you think should be Michigan's starting quarterback this year, Cade McNamara or J.J. McCarthy? It's a tough question!

Mods, feel free to, you know, move this to a diary if you feel it's appropriate.

Bought it. Excited to read it. I might listen to it too.

damn it’s like Black Friday on MGoBlog today. I’m buying NIL memberships, event sponsorships, and books.

Congratulations on your book! And on giving book talks in cool places.

Also, good luck finding a way to do the plyo stairs stuff. Maybe switch to the John Jay College Atrium.

As for your question, I don't want you to feel disappointed as it's highly unlikely that anyone around here has an opinion about McNamara vs. McCarthy.
