DRob Among 16 Davey O'Brien Award Semifinalists
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award semifinalists were announced today. There are 16 semifinalists, and DRob is among them.
The Big Ten represents one-fourth of the list, and at least two more signal callers have legitimate gripes at being left off.
Here are the selections:
- Michigan State junior Kirk Cousins
- Ohio State junior Terrelle Pryor
- Michigan sophomore Denard Robinson
- Iowa senior Ricky Stanzi
All four players are deserving, and Stanzi is one of only four repeat semifinalists from 2009. The Big Ten and Big 12 lead all conferences with four candidates apiece.
Nice recognition for a first year starter like DRob.

Denard's publicity train has been derailed after the last two weeks. I wonder what will happen if he starts putting up numbers again, Michigan starts winning again, and Auburn loses a couple? For the record, I am cheering for Auburn, I like Newton, and I like Bama about as much as LSU fans do. But I don't know if Auburn can beat Alabama on the road.
Back to Denard, though: this is setting him up very nicely for not only a future O'Brien award, but also a future Heisman. If Denard improves as much next year as he did this year, next year could be his year. Also, I'm not so sure that Denard can't at least get to a few award ceremonies this year with five more "Denard" performances.

Agreed... plus the bye week and the Newton performance have gotten people to forget about Denard... which isn't a bad thing. I'm hoping for a big night for him on Saturday with more people watching him live. I'm so anxious for this saturday it's not even funny.

probably locks him up for an invite to NYC to receive some hardware. We are including @ PSU (national TV), Illinois (good defense), Wisky (good defense) and @ OSU (nuff said). Only Cam Newton would be able to top that by beating Alabama and winning the SEC.
Denard has that good of a finish and people will start looking at his stats vs. MSU and Iowa and say, "You know, he didn't do that bad in those games."

Maybe Chappell and Tolzien? Maybe a gripe but probably a bit of a stretch. Of course, Chappell's performance against us would put him in the conversation so I can't dismiss him too quickly.

I'd think Dan Persa deserves some credit. Up until this weekend he was 4th in efficiency and way up there in completion percentage. The State game was definitely a hiccup for him though

way up there: he leads the nation

I know I'd put Tolzien on that list over Pryor. Maybe he just didn't catch enough touchdowns against baby seals to impress people, though.

Cam Newton wins it. Denard wins within the next 2 years.

Speaking of QBs, Adam Weber has now passed for over 10,000 yards. The Michigan school record is 9,715, by Henne. Just goes to show how career records can be a tad deceptive.

Adam Weber is a solid qb who has had bad luck by being on a string of bad teams and having brewster as a head coach. When you pass for 10,000 yards you are doing something well.

I'd say the opposite - he's a mediocre player who's shown little improvement over four years and has been extremely lucky to never have any real competition at the position.

Denard's heisman battle will always go through that team from down south.
Denard won't - and shouldn't win the heisman - nor should anyone from michigan do so - without a great performance against scarlet and gray. In fact, I might even say that they have to beat them.
So yeah, he controls his own destiny in the heisman race.

DROB deserves any and every positive thing that comes his way.
My favorite quote by him is when asked about the ND comeback what it felt like this year vs last year when Tate did it. "last year I felt like I was playing through Tate."
Great team player, great attitude.
