Does Michigan's "plight" have any bearing on what happens to USC?

The NCAA is dealing with "violations" at two major major schools, Michigan and USC. Michigan's violations are seemingly going to be secondary, with maybe a "major" violation thrown in for good measure, but all-in-all should (and by should I mean I hope) will result in minimal damage. However, imagine an infraction line, from 0 which is abiding by all the rules and not having any known violations, to 10, which would be multiple, numerous, repeated major violations, possibly during probationary periods as well. With Michigan, maybe we're at a 3? But where does that put USC? What I'm getting at: Given the issues at Michigan right now, does that seem to push USC's violations further down the scale, maybe from a 5 or 6 to a 7 or 8? Would this possibly result in harsher sentencing of USC's program simply because their violations seem so much more egregious than ours? Would the difference between our "institutional control" and USC's lack thereof create an even bigger difference in treatment? I think it's clear there are two very different types of violations occurring at these two programs, with a large chasm in between, and my opinion is that it will push the NCAA to come down harder on USC (although the NCAA could come down hard on us AND USC if they choose (that's what she said)).

Stop making new threads about this when they all say the same thing. -Most aren't worried about anything serious happening. -We're not happy with the shit we're going to have to take from MSU, OSU, etc. etc. fans. (And we WILL take shit for this.) -We're frustrated because we don't think it's fair. -We all hate the Freep, whether they're doing their job or not (which they aren't). -USC and Michigan are two different schools in two different situations. -We don't want to wait 'til August, but we'll have to suck it up and deal with it. You're still alive, you hopefully still have your health, and maybe even someone who loves you. Try not to get too worked up about this and it will all be ok... we got Devin Gardner, remember!?

At what point did my post say something serious was going to happen? When did I say it wasn't fair or that I was frustrated? When did I say I wished everything would happen now b/c I don't want to wait until August? When did I show any desperation whatsoever? I think you're the one who is worked up and needs to relax a little bit. This was simply a post to spark a little discussion. Man oh man, have a beer or something please.

I have made a similar point. It is very hard to impose sanctions on Michigan, and turn around and say major recruiting violations don't need harsher punishments.

They are similar because both programs will be slapped on the pinky for punishment (UM rightfully so). The difference is that UM violations are done by 100% of the scholls in college football and are minor at worst. USC on the other hand committed violations that are major and in fact show a lack of institutional control.

It's hard for USC not to get wins and scholarships taken away when Reggie Bush had both a house and trip to Vegas paid for by an agent while he was in school, and I can view the receipts online myself. The evidence is that damning. Anything less than that, and the NCAA is more of a joke than it already is.
