Diaries now have 200 word minimum

Submitted by Brian on
Gents: I've bumped the minimum words in a diary to 200, and created some explanatory text on the posting page that indicates short things with links should go on the message board. Also, I'd like to plead with the peanut gallery to avoid Rivals-esque smack talking like this or this. Some ribbing is fine but let's 1) not throw stones out of glass houses and 2) not use RCMB-esque juvenile nicknames for stuff. It is in this fashion we can maintain the air of superiority that is ours by birthright.

Thank you for taking in active role in keeping the board in check, Brian. I come here for the intelligent posting, so the inane Rivals/Scout style stuff the sometimes seeps in here is a pain to see.

It would be great to get a comment ombudsman to explain to people what is expected of a diary vs. what is expected of a message board post. The smack talking is message board fodder, I expect to see some research in a diary post (example: breakdown of the Pitt/WVU game)or something really substantial and clever (example: List of Michigan traditions).

200 words? Aww man. Is this graded on a curve? Actually, I think "diaries" should be just that. I think a breakdown of the game is great, but so is a breakdown of the tailgate, or some past stories of great days of M-dom. I agree that smack probably belongs on the message board. To a point. I have respect for other schools and their traditions and fan bases, but I don't think it can be expected to show "Big Love" to Sparty or Bucknut Nation. But I don't think there's much point in "You suck," "No, YOU suck" postings.

Is there any way to actually view html when editing the diary? Like, I tried to import something written in word into a diary, but the formatting was just, as far as I could figure, un-correctable. Crazy spans and line breaks everywhere. I got frustrated, said fuck it, and posted in on WLA. But, it should have gone in a diary.

Was that post serious? I thought it was someone posting in the character of the legndary Michigan Man from haloscan days. He's not actually back is he? Also, I think the 200 word minimum is a good idea.
