Dear angry 2009-10 Michigan-hating god

Submitted by allinforM on

OK, OK, you win. This week's activities (self-imposed sanctions in football, crushing sweep of softball and baseball's two come-from-ahead losses in the Big Ten Tournament) have shown just how powerful you really were. We thought you had let us off the hook during hockey season, and we briefly taunted you when Red's troops made their improbable late-season run. But, you remided us this spring that 2009-10 just wasn't to be in Michigan athletics. Now, during this Memorial Day weekend, as we begin summer, we allow you one final chance to say "scoreboard" and we look forward to 2010-11 and teeing it up Sept. 4. If anyone else would like to leave a similar apology at the feet of angry 2009-10 Michigan-hating god, let's do it now. At least you didn't stop us from landing David Brandon, and for that, we are thankful.

he/she doesn't hate us too bad - good hockey finish, baseball, lacrosse, women's softball, women's bball, men's gymnastics, etc.   look for something a little more mundane w/ respect to the men's football and basketball programs.

Volleyball was fucking awesome. Elite 8 anyone?

Baseball wasn't a huge disappointment. Michigan is coming out of the reload/rebuild stage. I don't think they were destined for any NCAA glory due to the lack of a true, proven ace. Sure, Alan was great, particularly early in the season. That didn't last as he wore down in his first season as a full time starter. In the preseason, I had us pegged for a top tier Big Ten team with bubble aspirations. That's just about where Michigan ended up. One or two more wins during LaMarre's absence would have had it nailed.

Now softball, that was upsetting. Those girls have gone through some major tough spots over the last 9 months between Bree's injuries and their #2 ranking. I wish they'd made it farther, but hey, when you're down to the final 16, that's not a bad spot to be either.

Thanks to everyone for pointing out all of the great successes of most of the teams. Maybe it was just today, but it seems like when we lost this year or bad things happened, they were pretty gut-wrenching. Here's to 2010-11.
